So what with being in a different country and very unfamiliar with the roads and layouts (and the fact that a vehicle's built in sat nav almost never gets updated, and isn't very good at traffic rerouting, and I can't afford a car with android auto as well as the other things I'd want in a car), and the frequency of speed traps and the consequences of speeding, I decided it was time to have something that could hold my phone close to my eye line so waze could keep me on the straight and narrow, so to speak...

I was first introduced to the Huawei cradle a couple of years ago, at an event showcasing the mate 30 I think it was. Very cool little gadget. Does wireless supercharging (27 Watts), and has proximity sensors and stuff so you just put your phone near it, the little arms open up, pop the phone in and it grabs hold. Nothing to plug in, because it's wireless! But there is a little hole at the bottom you can pop a USB cable through if you want that as well.
It's powered from a dedicated 12v accessory socket plug, but you can also use a USB-c cable to power it, assuming your USB charger can put out enough juice to support the 27 Watts. I'm so out of date with that stuff now I think it does not work with a normal USB car charger, you'd probably need a Huawei supercharger plus compatible cable if you didn't want to use the included power cable.
It comes with an air vent clamp which seems to be pretty solid, holds on nicely and there is some pivoting freedom of movement as well which gives a little flexibility in where you install it.
There is also an adhesive adapter you can stick onto a flat surface, and the air vent clamp clips into that.

My car doesn't have any flat surfaces I could use, and it also has a plethora of info screens so placement was a bit of a challenge, I ended up putting it on the passenger side center air vent.

When it comes to removing the phone, you just grab it, and there is a little spot on the left hand side of the cradle that you brush with your finger and the arms release again. Just remember to do it before turning the car off!

Grip is good, didn't feel like my heavy p30 pro was in any danger of falling out.

No pics of the phone in the cradle because the phone is the only camera I have at the moment

All in all I'm happy with this accessory...
