Do you think that Huawei has done an adequate job of mitigating their banning from the Play store and the absence of core Google apps such as Maps, YouTube, etc or do they still have a way to go?

And so those of you who don't have an affected Huawei don't feel left out... Do you feel Huawei are being unfairly persecuted or are they getting what they deserve? (Answer in the comments please :) )
 
They have some way to go. Wife's phone doesn't have play store, the gallery didn't have things like Netflix on so the guy at the huawei store said I should download the findorra app, that had all of the apps available for download that I wanted.
 
Im not brand loyal enough to stick with Huawei ,

I guess it goes to how important the hardware on it's own is to a person?
 
absolutely terrible is my assessment.

apps are there, but without GMS impossible to install and use.

Huawei is trying hard, but Google has built a monopoly along with cr@pple
that is increasingly hard to fight.

I cant remember the movie it comes from, But "Its all sony guts" comes to mind.

All the phones now are so similar. Entry level phones do about the same, Mid levels are all the same, Its only the high end ones that are really different IMHO,
 
I've had friends call me up after buying a P40 lite asking how they get their apps on the new phone :X3:

Unfortunately we're in a situation where SA cellular stores push these phones on people without informing them of the pitfalls.

Overall, it's an unmitigated disaster and I honestly feel sorry for Huawei, their phones are good and well priced.

Yeah, local networks are being disgracefully irresponsible by not informing prospective buyers of the shortcomings of the new Huawei phones.
 
The only question I have for those that are in the know is:

Does the new Huawei device come with all sorts of "forced Apps" installed?
Is the user able to REMOVE all the apps he does not want on the device?

Thank you. Dou you know if the new Huawei operating system is backwards compatible with existing Huawei Android devices? I would love to be able to reuse an existing Android device I have, free of all the bloatware it currently has on it.

HarmonyOS will be available on some existing devices, yes. Not sure if there's a definitive list though

Some EMUI 11 devices will be able to upgrade to it. Perhaps you can root the device and install https://lineageos.org/ if it's supported.
 
If the huawei app gallery does not have an app that you are looking for, download "findora" from the app store.
findora has more apps than the huawei app gallery.
 
p40 pro is a nice device, very nice pictures. good piece of hardware imo.

the app gallery is seriously lacking, the option to show interest in a required app gives a sense of false hope.

some of the apps that are available also do not always work the same. missing features or ways of doing things can be frustrating for some people.

you can of course do a lot of the app stuff via their respective websites instead...
