Residents were once again rudely awakened by what sounded like a bomb blast at around 02:00 in Centurion on Friday morning.
Police have confirmed that the blast occurred at the ABSA ATM on the corner of Cantonments and Burger street in Lyttelton.
It was reported that one suspect was arrested and is believed to be a member of the police, although police spokesperson Lt. Linda Jerling, said she could not confirm or deny this.
According to an eyewitness three heavily armed suspects were involved in the incident.
Jerling said the suspects fled in a dark coloured BMW, with an undisclosed amount of money.
This comes months after residents believed the spite of bombings that had disturbed their early morning sleep had been resolved.
The last reported incident of an ATM bombing was in October last year, when the number of bombings had totalled 11.
Police then surmised that a syndicate could have been involved.
Jerling said that a case under the explosives act would be investigated.
