Huge LCD Supply problem in SA

Hi guys,

I've been noticing a huge LCD Supply problem her in SA for th last 2 or 3 months. The market has a serious shortage on quality 19"+ LCD monitors with ViewSonic, LG and Samsung monitors nowhere to be found. The strange thing is, companies are advertising these monitors like they have TONS of stock.

So beware, do NOT order any of these LCD monitors online and worst of all, do NOT pay them the money for your order. Only do so when you have actually received your goods.

Companies like Digital Planet, PC Mall and even the Prophecy Shop do not have stock of decent LCD monitors at the moment. When I say decent, I mean anything other than Phillips, Hanns G and Siemens, Mecer and Acer crap that they SO want to shove down your throat.

Once again we feel the burn for living in a 3rd world country.
 
This goes for top of the range Acer LCD screens aswell. After being assured of their 'abundance' in abt November last year, i ended up waiting 3 months for the monitor, after which I jsut went with a Samsung.
Turns out Acer never shipped the monitors, and when they finally did, they shipped the wrong 17" ones.

Sigh, living in Africa
 
Well, if you've got cash to burn, Hi Fi Corp has a good stock of those new acer ferrari 19inchers, not bad reviews either. Popped in there yesterday to pick up a memory stick 4 my camera, and almost walked out with one :)
 
What shortage ???.
I bought two 19" Samsung 940BF's last month.

See plenty of Mercer and Geni-Sat KCD panels available for very cheap.

Just an update.

Sorry guys... All sold out. I had 9 but they all got sold today.

Mr A dont feel bad, you missed the last one by +- an hour.

Anyways...I see in Today's paper Incredible Connection are running specials on Samsung 940BF 19" LCD monitors. R2999 each. I think I'm going to go and buy one asap, first thing in the morning.

Since were talkin bout lcds here im definitely lookin to get one in the near future..so whats the best brands for lcds? Could i get a 19" for about R2-R2.5K? And it HAS to be one that puts 0% strain on my eyes cos my current monitor hurts my eyes bad. :(
 
I'm hoping to get one this month, they are fairly dang expensive over here in the UK, although there's no shortage.

Any recommendations?

I don't want to spend more than £170 (R2000)
Got my eye on a Dell, as I use one at work and am happy with it, but was also thinking of getting one with built in speakers.

Not too fussed about sound right now - I want to hook it up to my laptop to save desk space, as I got a full size keyboard - IOW, my laptop has become "landlocked" till I get a desktop puter.

Difficult decision deciding what to buy, one thing which puts me off a bit is that the max resolution seems to be 1280x968, but I'll never get another CRT again - too bulky, ugly and heavy.

Then again, on ebay, you can pick them up dirt cheap if your willing to go and fetch them from the seller.

Hmmm, decisions decisions.

I figure there's no point getting a 17" when a 19" is not a huge amount more.

LOL, how could you have sold it ? Since the only suppliers of Viewsonic , Proton, didn't have any 19" for quite a while now.

Did you sell some ghost stock ?
 
Yeah I'm also thinking he's trying to make his own brownie-points by saying, hey...I've got one! Okay I'll take it! Sorry it's just been sold!

HAHA yeah right.

I bought them all from proton when they had stock Jeeva... this way i could sell them when no one else has. :D And you should have been able to work that out as i sold them over a public hol and proton if they has stock would not be able to supply me with them today in any case...
