Two hundred and twenty-seven people were arrested in a police operation in different areas of Gauteng, police said on Saturday.

“The operation was conducted (on Friday night) in Moroka, Lenasia, Lenasia South, Naledi, Jabulani and Dobsonville clusters,” Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said.

The operation took place between 9pm and 4am.

The 227 people included those arrested for attempted rape, dealing in liquor, dealing in dagga, possession of unlicensed firearms, stolen vehicles, stolen property and driving under the influence of alcohol, he said.

Two shebeens were closed down and no one was injured.

Makhubela said those arrested were expected to appear in the Vereeniging, Lenasia, Protea and Roodepoort magistrate's courts on Monday. - Sapa

Good job

doubt even 5% of them will go through our justice system properly though :(

Yeah, I think that's the main bottleneck. People get arrested by the droves for all kinds of crimes, but the justice system isn't working efficiently enough to actually prosecute them in a timely fashion.

Unfortunately you probably correct but always gr8 to see some one in the Government doing a proper job. Well done SAPS.

Yea but we cannot really bitch and say the police are not trying now.

seems to me the ANC is trying to get crime under control but they need to fix the courts before they can. Awesome to read these stories though.
