Greets fellow wowers

I use Cheekies spread sheet for my lewt .. but i cant see a ranged weapon table.

Where do fellow hunters compare weapon choices, dps, etc?

maxdps is kinda crap.

As a non BM hunter I have given up on trying to DPS am working on Damage per Hour at the moment and am trying to work up to Damage per minute.

But on topic I have not found anything on this I would consider useful and/or gospel

TBC was the best time ever to play a hunter. For sure before TBC, hunter dps sucked kodo nuts, but as it is now... damn its never been a better time to play a hunter.

Honestly, any hunter failing at dps, just haven't been reading any forums about hunter tuning mechanics + dps builds ;)

Keywords that comes to mind... cookie cutter builds, BM macro's, Hit rating etc.

But yes, if you are playing MM spec you will fail big time on dps... survival you can push out decent dps (with the right 1:1.5 shot macro + specific build) ... but BM is where the hunters with the big coconuts are slapping the other dps classes :p
MM changed more to a PVP / Arena build after TBC came into effect.

As for storm... your ranged weapon is the easiest part of your gear to select. The other gear items / gem choices / enchants I would say is more tricky to work out if you wanna tune your hunter to the max.

A quick and short answer to your question. It depends on your build. If its BM, and you dont have any haste effects... Badge bow (the KFC chicken bow) is your best bow until you have access to haste gear, and 3.0 MH / BT weapons. If you are pre-SSC level gear, and dont want to farm badges, the Merciless X-bow is also damn good. Probably the easiest to get now if you are not much into farming badges.
 
you see that's just the issue, I want to play my hunter, not have a macro to do it.

As far as I am concerned when I start relying on macro's to play the game for me I may as well bot it :P

Anyways huntard is not my main, it's purely there to make sure my priest has the leather and ores she needs :P

You do realise that every class that wants to actually play to their full potential needs to use Macro's right?
 
Yes sadly, if you are not much into the macro thing, then sunwell will be a nightmare for you.

You have to have sooooo many keybindings and macro's, if you dont have them, you will suffer big time.

Just a quick eg. with our latency in SA to EU servers, if you dont use a macro on bosses like Felmyst to drink arcane resistance pot + use HS at same time when someone in your group gets encapsulate, its bye bye. By the time it shows on your side that someone got encapsulate, you have taken like 7k damage already ! The deeper you get into the game, you will be screwed without macro's... same with Vashj and core handling macro's.

Kael and legendary weapon equipping for hunters, teron gorefiend construct handling macro's... the list goes on and on.
I hated macro'ing everything, but its the only way to go if you are serious on progression. And back to hunter dps thingies... if you are serious about hunter dps, BM is the way to go... and dont make the mistake about its only one button bashing, trust me there is a LOT more to it than just one button bashing. Sure there are thousands of hunters only bashing one button, but its your choice if you enjoy playing like that ;)

Seeing we talking hunters and weapons.

I've used sockets to max Hit Rating - I have legacy as my melee and have sonic spear just lying in bank - should i use sonic it has +24 HR and rather use the yellow gem sockets for something else?

And if i must re-socket yellow - what should i put in there??

Hunter expert at work :D Listen to this guy, he have helped me push my overall dps from 900 to over 1400 now :D

There is no reason why a hunter cant full out dps without using Macro's. Get a decent swing timer mod and weave your shots yourself if you want. With sub 50ms latency you have 1.2 sec to push that button at the riight time. With 350ms ping you have less than 0.6 ms. If you have the reflexes of a cobra, go for it :D (That is BM stats, MM and Surv hunters have about 0.5 s more time on shots.)
Using a macro you can focus on other more important things like staying alive, watich your threat meter, controling your pet, eat dinner, etc.

As for bow choice, at what stage of the game are you? Got the Karazhan x-bow, gun or bow yet? Collecting badges already?
