Replace disc pads yesterday using only the one jack. Found it went a bit down and had to jack it up again.
Do they do this, or must I maintain it. No oil leaks. I dont seems to find good advice from mr google.

Perhaps there is an air leak by the valve. Submerge the jack in water and see if it leaks, if not then I would say you did not tighten the valve correctly.

PLEASE don't submerge the thing, you will kill it!!

Hydraulic fluid is hygroscopic and actually absorbs water!!!!!!!

If a jack goes soft on you all you have to do is replace the hydraulic fluid with fresh stuff, that usually does the trick, particularly if there are no leaks!

DO NOT SUBMERGE IT!!!

Out of interest how could you kill it with water? Not disputing the advice as I've never done it but I'm just curious.

Why is water in hydraulic fluid bad?

Water in hydraulic fluid:

Depletes some additives and reacts with others to form corrosive by-products which attack some metals.
Reduces lubricant film-strength, which leaves critical surfaces vulnerable to wear and corrosion.
Reduces filterability and clogs filters.
Increases air entrainment ability.
Increases the likelihood of cavitation occurring.

Look up the word HYGROSCOPIC.

Thanks.

I take the Bumblebee approach to everything, if you don't know you shouldn't then you can, but if you do you should not then you cannot.
