Luderitz is a small remote harbour town stuck away on a desolate rocky stretch of the Namibian coastline. This is the spot where the German's launched their colonial expansion from.
Anyhow, A mate of mine is a cog in the Gov up here and he happened to be in my office knocking back a few cold brewski's last Friday and told me how he was instructed "Straight from the top" to provide escort into the restricted area for outside investors from Australia.
On arriving at Luderitz he noticed that there were two jets parked there that his "guests" had arrived in.
In a nutshell, Australian investors are in town for the 2nd time and it is for Hydrogen Energy, combined with Solar and wind. The first stage of the project is to develop 10Gw (Yep I had to google this in comparison to Eskom) of energy. This energy will be providing cheap power for Namibia and for export to SADAC.
Now we all know the tales of these projects, so I googled around and see that Germany is also trying to tie up deals with Namibia with regard to developing Hydrogen energy for export. It would seem Namibia and Vietnam are the two potential hotspots in the globe for doing this.
To add more to the tale, Another mate who supplies tech to the big mines has already been tasked with preparing quotes on some of the side equipment.
In addition to this the local DeBeers mine up here who is a large consumer of Eskom imported power since 1979 had a meeting last week and are now looking at alternative green energy to power their operations.
The both these tales it was stated along the lines that Eskom cannot be relied upon to provide energy in the coming years.
On the down side, the uniqueness of the pristine desert around Luderitz is going to be scarred.....
Exciting times ahead!
