TIL; Hyundai is entering the luxury car market and seem to be doing pretty well. It is priced well overseas, but I doubt SA shores will ever see this model.

Still, they have come a long way since the day of the early Accent and Elantra models :)

The new 2015 Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan has scored the highest ANCAP rating since testing began 21 years ago.

Announced this morning, the Korean company’s much-hyped flagship managed to score an almost-perfect 36.88 points out of 37 against ANCAP’s regimen, ousting the 36.78 achieved by the Mercedes-Benz B-Class in 2012. Naturally this equates to five stars.

The tally of 36.88 included a frontal offset score of 15.88 out of 16 and a side impact protection score of 16 out of 16. The Genesis also scored 2 out of 2 in the pole test and a whiplash protection test rating of ‘good’.

Didn't you read the car news, its been confirmed that its coming to SA late 2014 probably November or December. Looks impressive car.
 
Wow, that looks like a Jag (badge shape). Wonder if the one we get will look more like this:

That is the coupe version but the badge looks more like the Hyundai we are used to. The other one looks better though.

I read the article on IOL now; according them it was supposed to be here by now. Only time will tell - I think it looks impressive, but I will believe it when I see it. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see one of these in the flesh, but Hyundai SA seems to have lost the plot with their model lineup.

The i-series vehicles were supposed to be Euro models and the Americas received the Accent, Elantra, Sonata models while we here in SA received both variants. I feel that Hyundai might have oversaturated the market with all the choices, yet they limit us to very basic engines. Overseas and elsewhere the Veloster gets a 150Kw turbo mill and the i30 has a nice range of peppy diesel models, but here the we get to choose between a few petrol Gamma engines and a single Diesel engine in the i20.

Hence why my initial skepticism - I feel they could pull it off here if the price is competitive enough to sway potential buyers away from the likes of the more established German brands. Safricans love their brand names, and I don't see many people dropping half a bar on a Hyundai anytime soon.

If they do end up here I might be persuaded to trade my i30 in for one...:p
