Hyundai i10 Door Replacement Advice

Hi everyone,

I need to get some advise from the fine experts on this forum.

About two weeks back my rear driver side window cracked quite badly as I was driving to work. I put a claim in through the insurer and all went as expected. But when the guy came to put in the window, he discovered that the inside was quite rusted inside, including the thingmabob (see why I need your help) that holds the window that winds up and down. The door does have a rust patch but didn't realise that it extended that much into the door. He put the window in but because mechanism is rusted and thus a little weak, the window doesn't work. He's advised that I need to replace the door. I still need to get the tinting and smash and grab sorted but am waiting until I get a little clarity on the door

Being rust the insurer won't cover it. What I would like to know is a ball park figure what a door replacement will cost and if it would even be necessary. If a repair job can be done that will last, great! Besides the rust patch from the outside, the door looks fine and works as any door should. There aren't any gaping holes with nesting birds inside so I'm hoping the door is salvageable.

I'm in the Durban area if you can recommend anyone reputable to get a second opinion of the door.

wow Durbans sea salt is no joke, cars turn to rust so quickly its madness, must be the salt in the air.

probably best in buying a replacement door and spraying it and going that way.
dont think trying to sand out the dust is going to work, it will just weaken other things inside the door,

The rust is a huge problem here. I'd imagine that something like rust is pretty much a death knell in any hopes of saving the door.

I've seen a few silver i10's in the area, maybe steal a door off one of them

So a few phone calls later...Hyundai have quoted me R5300 for a new door and the fitment by another guy between R1500 - R2000. I'm still shopping around but am hesitant to go for second hand or after market door unless it is drastically lower than the R5300 quoted.

I've noticed though that these bigger panel beaters just straight up say 'bring the car in' and won't even discuss the price. I can understand they can't give an exact quote but I'd appreciate it if they would at least give estimates so I have a rough idea what is going on.

As I type this the one guy called me back to tell me they can offer a black door with 'slight damage' for R2500. Looks like I'm better off just getting a new door and avoiding the hassle.

Must admit I've driven passed a few i10's already and thought about 'appropriating' their door...

How old is the car? Doesn't cars come with anti corrosion\ rust warranties?
Also for the inside of the door to be rusty, does it mean water is leaking though the rubber seal on the window?

It's a 2008 model, I'd imagine any warranty has long since expired.

There is a patch on the outside of the door with rust which would have given easy access for further rust to enter.
