My sister's Hyundai i10 has all of a sudden a weird oil consumption problem.

We check the oil every 2-3 days, the oil level would be full all the time for weeks, then all of a sudden in a matter of 2-3 days, it goes down to half. We then top it up to full, and then it will stay on full again for weeks, then half again in a matter of days...and so the cycle repeats itself.

What could the problem be?

Is half the point between min/max? That is more like 90% to the max and the ideal position - I leave mine there if it is not consuming oil. The goal is to keep it above minimum .

On an engine in perfect condition, you could start seeing oil consumption when the oil gets old. I've even found odd consumption like this which then disappears after topping up with fresh oil a few times.

Are you using the dipstick to measure? xD

Was the car at around the same temperature every time you measured the oil?

Yes, by half I meant the point between min & max. I will perhaps change the oil and see what it does.

Jip, I'm using the dipstick...and yes, always at around the same temperature.

Do you allow sufficient time to allow the oil to drain back into the sump after the engine has run?
