Hyundai i10 Service

Hi All
My missus’ i10 is due for 120 000km service and got told by Hyundai The Glen it will cost over R7k for the service, I’m not a massive car enthusiast but even I know something isn’t right with that amount.
I wanted to know if anyone knows of any good mechs in Jhb who I can send the car to for the service.

Sounds about right actually.

The 120,000km service is a big one usually. They normally do the cam belts at that time and that's quite a big job.
 
Ok they did mention something like that to me but the car only has 20 000km currently and by their explanation the last service was in 2019 and was for the 60 000km service (the mileage was maybe 10k km at the time) so if I send it this year it will be based on years and service will be for 120k km ie
2020 - 75k km
2021 - 90k km
2022 - 105k km
2023 - 120k km…
But if the car hasn’t done that mileage is a major service even required and as you pointed out cam belt would need to be done which is fairly labour intensive but wouldnt that really only needed if you servicing a car that has actually done 120k km..

Oh I see. That's a very weird scenario.

So the car is 7 years old basically. There are wear and tear items that would be replaced at specific intervals due to aging - rubbers, hoses etc. I wouldn't really expect those to be tarnished at 7 years.

The cam belt service wouldn't make sense in that the engine hasn't done the mileage, but if it's a cam belt and not a chain, the issue could be the age of the rubber possibly.

I'm not a mechanic so don't think I'm really qualified to answer this. I'd just Google for workshops in your area and ask them.
 
If anyone does know of a good mech who knows Hyundais in Jhb I would appreciate a number to contact them
 
Just service my I20, oil HX8, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, radiator fluid and window wipers. For R1500 DIY.

99% chance it's a chain.

Had the same issue with Hyundai Paarden Island and my one colleague. They claimed his cam chain needs to be replaced at 90 000 km.

Cam belt yes, cam chain last to 200000km

Labour is always the most expensive. If you around JHB and have a few tools I can show you how to do on the cheap...

You can always just Google or YouTube...

People think it's a big job but it's quick and easy. Dealership rob people and mechanics need to make a living as well.

Only tools I have is a Phillips screwdriver and a plastic pick top open laptops…
I agree on the point of dealerships “robbing” clients by inflating prices and understand that mechanics need to make a living which is why I’m looking for a good one to do the service.
 
It’s i10 1.1 Motion Auto, think it’s a 2014 model.
 
Been quoted R2200 for my 75000 service for my 2018 ford figo by Ford.. Decent price?

Read that again. They wanted to replace his cam chain. And cam chains are supposed to last for the life of the engine, so there is no defined schedule for replacing it.
 
Have you asked for a quotation with a breakdown of the work to be done? It seems reasonable if the cambelt needs replacing.

I'm fairly certain that engine has timing belt. The rubber and glue degrade over time, that's why there is generally a mileage and time period given.

I have asked and so far they haven’t sent it to me, they’ve only told me over the phone it’s gonna cost approx 7500 for the service.

Ask them to send you the quote with breakdown of what needs to be done, always, people should really stop with the major service and minor service thing, it's just useless terminology.
 
The 1.1 diesel, 1.2 petrol and 1.25 petrol have chains, while the 1.1 petrol engine has a timing belt.
Does Hyundai i10 1.0 have a Cambelt?


The 1.1-litre engine needs a new cambelt every seven years or 72,000 miles and you should budget £250-300 for this job.

Google-fu is easy lads....
R5000 to R6000 is in the ballpark, given 1Pound = R20 as rough idea.

and the timechain is around one of the engine mounts, need to come off if i got it right.
 
Car has a cambelt which needs to be replaced at 90 000km however since this car only has 20 000km it will not be checked and will only be when the mileage is 90 000km which made me ask than why is the service gonna cost over R7K and they say their service cost matrix (pos software) automatically is configured that if
vehicle is coming in for certain km service than number of hours are preset and cannot be changed so in my case they told me car needs 120 000km service it is 3.5hrs x R805p/h Labour rate excl vat
They gave me a list of parts/fluids they will use and the qty and price

Person I spoke to said I must request just a minor service of oil change and air filter change and it would be cheaper and possibly less labour.
All this is dodgy and make me suspicious as I'm no mech but do all these things take 3.5hrs? or are they overstating it to compensate if for eg. they have a mech who works a little bit slower and he takes 4hrs to do the same job on someone elses car and the person who worked on mine finished in 2.5hrs?
