Nooit. Last I checked it cost 60K more for the forester to get the same comfy features ( minus the 4x4 ) . The most climbing i do with the car is the pavement so that was not a requirement. but to be honest if I had the $ I wouldve gotten a subaru . Build is alot more solid , but I was looking for a family vehicle and you just cant beat the value for money in the IX.

It all depends on whether you want BLING or Engineering.

Didn't realise an IX 35 only cost 229 000

Didn't realise then that Subaru Forester only cost R 289 000, sales must be bad if there is a discount on offer of R 25 000? :wtf:

Actually the Forester starts at R 314 000, Ix35 at 249 000, so that would be a R 65 000 difference. The Hyundai has a superior maintenance plan, warranty and much longer service intervals. Also Subaru parts are known to be a bit on the pricier side? But the cost difference between the two is only slightly justified with the Forestor having AWD and a 2.5lt engine.

Actually starts at 289k :D NEVER trust CAR magazine for a price or a fuel consumption figure!

PS I wish JD Powers would do another survey of these two cars, say 3 years and 60 000 down the road. I don't think the Hyundai would do that well.....

314k will get you an XS which is mid range with bling, requested by Koreans.....:(

Ground clearance 225mm as well. Not sure where your IX35 would be at that point?

We had a Getz(with RDS :)) for about three years. Apart from those unavoidable scratches on parts like the gear lever and door handles the intererior looked just as good after three years as the day it was delivered. It never broke down, everything worked perfectly and the aftersales service was excellent. Quite difficult to say anything bad about this car.

Interesting you should say that as the odd Getz that comes in is usually super. It's the wannabe SUV's that wear terribly badly. You should see the interior of a Tuscon owned by someone who is fanatical about the way he keeps his car. Outside is fine, engine compartment brilliant and interior looks like a train wreck. Same story with a Sportage we traded in last week.

BTW, that JD Powers was based on the American built Forester. Different kettle of fish to the Japaneses one.

A little bit off topic but I see that someone did the Dakar with a stock Sorento.

Working in the car audio industry and know the agents for the Hyundai radio's... Cost saving, the RDS chip adds $10 (for a good quality one) extra to the radio cost. Odd models do have it as the radio's are specced from other continents stock (i20). Really not much in the long run!
