Hyundai Automotive South Africa has confirmed to Cars.co.za that it plans to introduce the Stargazer – a compact MPV that offers up to 7 seats – to the local market in the opening quarter of 2027.
Manufactured in Indonesia (alongside the SA-spec Creta at the Cikarang plant) since mid-2022, the Stargazer rides on the South Korean firm’s K2 platform, which also underpins the closely related KY-series Kia Carens – a model that launched in Mzansi as recently as May 2026.
“The Hyundai Stargazer is an important addition to our local product portfolio as we continue to respond to the changing needs of South African customers,” the brand’s local distributor told Cars.co.za in a statement.
“The vehicle brings Hyundai’s interpretation of the modern multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) to the market, combining practicality and flexibility associated with a people-mover with the design, technology and everyday usability that customers increasingly expect from a family vehicle.”
Confirming that the Stargazer is scheduled to touch down in South Africa in the first quarter of next year, Hyundai Automotive SA added that “further details, including local specifications, pricing and availability, will be communicated closer to the launch”.
While the original version had front-end styling similar to that of the larger Staria, SA looks set to receive the facelifted model that was unveiled in July 2025. In Indonesia, the refreshed model’s badge gains the “Cartenz” suffix (named after “Puncak Cartenz”, the nation’s highest peak), though we expect it to be known simply as “Stargazer” here in SA.
