Borrowed a friend 5GB dongle for the evening to test signal in my area (don't fully trust a coverage map) and got 2mbps down/2mbps up - with low pings.

No where near what they claimed - but I decided to buy one one the following day. Tried different USB ports, rearranged my PC to try different locations and managed to tweak it slightly.

Since I have no much data, I decided to get all updates - even optional. These totally 354MB and I started at 13:15. By 13.30 there were all done .... 354MB in 15 minutes!

its a nice idea, wouldn't mind having one but the amount of data is simply not worth it, 5gb doesn't even cover one day for me, if you have a very good signal the speed is decent though.

Yip... After reinstalling OS on my pc it had to do a bunch of updates, was like 200MB+ so I figured I'd leave it on for the night and it should be done in the morning. Set up another app or 2 and suddenly I see it says "installing updates". o_O

Also did a 700mb "linux iso" on a torrent and it was done in 18min.

What updates are you guys installing? Cell C updates? Operating system updates? Modem updates?

OS updates in my case. Haven't ever seen an update for the cell C stuff.

I have a CellC connection as my reserve connection. I often find myself switching to it.

I'm installing every driver and update for everything I have ;)

I meant OS updates - have firmware for my TViX, my TV, my Squeezebox ... pretty much anything!

I used to have Telkom as a backup and I'd rate it pretty decent - but Cell C is streets ahead of Vodacom when it comes to data.

Ok cool.
Thought Cell C might have released some firmware updates to make the data go even faster.
Get it to Whooosh Whooosh X 2 or something :)

Do you know what really impressed me?

The service.

I went during my lunch break with the intention of finding out more and walked out with the activated, RICA'd device less than 15 minutes later.

Everytime I've dealt with an MTN shop it has taken 30 minutes to get the attention of some dimwit behind the counter, another 20 minutes to fill in forms and up to an hour listening to the phone ringing while they tried to get through to MTN HQ to activate the damn thing.

It's a complete breath of fresh air walking into a shop with adequate staff performing a streamlined process of activation.

Up until today I knew MTN had lost the plot but the extent has become fully apparent to me now.

agreed. but mtn data is still good, albeit expensive... its just vodacom thats a complete flop.

Nah, I'm moving from MTN after the treatment I received when they screwed up my billing. They are untrustworthy snakes.

Cell C is spoiling us.

For the 1st three days, I streamed tons of videos from YouTube without a single buffer. 10 minute comedy clips were watched flawlessy.

Yesterday I had one BUFFER for a few seconds in the middle of the clip and thought OMG WTF - but logic kicked in and I realised a small buffer is still awesome and something most struggle to get!

Can someone remind me how much data we get if we sign up after the 15th? I've forgotten. Is it 50% of your monthly cap?

I would love to know how many people Cell C is signing up at the moment.
