I bought some PC components for work (components for one PC and MB, CPU and RAM for another one) and built the thing just now. Intel MB G31 "Pearl Creek", Intel E7200 CPU ....

Guess what ... no display. Troubleshoot. Tried numerous RAM sticks, unplugged all the other components (HD, DVD, case fans etc. ... even tried the other CPU), made sure the little P4 connector is secured.

Ok. Try the other mobo meant for another computer.

Guess what ... no display.:mad: goes through the same troubleshooting procedure. No go. Even tried it in another part off the building (maybe it's the power outlets ... yeah right, 50 computers are running in the room)

And I know it's nothing I did. I've built hundreds of PCs. Everthing was done perfectly. And now my admin people are pissed because I told them they'd get their computer tomorrow. Instead I now have to take it back and the shop must order new ones. I live about 2 hours away from Cape Town.

Just ranting.

my advice is never buy an intel mobo unless its for a server

i dont feel they offer anything near the quality of a gigabyte for instance

could just be a bad board :)

It's annoying I know. Have you tried the process of elimination? Putting the components, one by one, into a working system? It's a pain!

Does that motherboard support a Penryn based processor out the box? AFAIK, an E7200 is a Penryn based 45nm. I know that the later Intel boards should support it, but with a BIOS update.

I had a similar issue with my Asus MB, but after a BIOS reset it started posting properly, and since then it's been all good.

What was the other processor you tried to use when the E7200 didn't work?

Exactly the same processor.

I stepped into this very same pitfall. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Has updating the BIOS not helped by any chance? I'm running a Q9450 on an old Asus P5WDH motherboard, which is based on the ancient 975x Intel chipset, which worked fine after a BIOS upgrade.

The G31 is a lot newer, and should support the Penryn range, after a BIOS flash. I may of course be wrong, but I'm going on a hunch here.

Yep, I had to update the BIOS. Then it worked perfectly.
