a roof rack ...

My vehicle has flush rails.. I do not want to pay Thule prices, so what are the other alternatives you may have found that is not going to require me to sell a kidney or my peen..?
 
Build one. I'm going to early next year for the Pathfinder.

I found this video that gave me some ideas


But i'm going to use aluminum square tubing and angle iron for the outside frame. Then aluminum rectangular for the cross sections.

Think it will work ?

Yes, should work fine for your car with the raised rails..

My car has flush rails, so something like this is not going to work for me..

What car is it ? Sure i've seen some cheap options on TakeaLot.
