The Wii Component Cable

I have researched but haven't ben able to find too much of a definitive answer. Does this cable work for old Tv's with just the red, white, and yellow inputs? And does it improve the quality of the image?
 
Try playing a fps on the wii and not feeling like your arms are going to fall off....it's not that I'm unfit...it's just tiresome...
 
I wouldn't mind playing that Meteor Prime something on the Wii, after reading the review on lazygamer it seems like something which could be fun. Using the controller to throw a grappling hook etc.

FYI
The Component cable has Black ,green & red inputs, The yellowredwhite cable is called a RCA cable.

Mario Galaxy is totally addictive can't get away from it. Best fun I've had on a console in a while.
