Laura Ripley who has never worked was given a £8,000 op on the NHS to help her slim down from 38 to 22 stone.

But the 25-year-old, who receives £600 a month in benefits is unhappy because as a result of losing weight she can no longer claim disability allowance amounting to an extra £340 a month.

This, she says, means she cannot afford to eat healthily - causing her to pile the weight back on.

'I can't afford to buy WeightWatchers crisps and cereal bars any more so I eat Tesco's chocolate bars and packets of Space Invaders crisps, sometimes four of each a day', says unemployed Laura, who spends seven hours a day watching TV.

'People ask why I don't snack on an apple - they're cheap, but emotionally I don't always feel like an apple.'

The disability allowance money she used to receive was spent on gym workouts, healthy food and having her hair highlighted.

She adds: 'Without my disability allowance I'm left with just £210 incapacity benefit which I get because of my depression, and £100 income support I receive every two weeks and out of that I have to give them back £70 towards the cost of the £500-a-month flat I'm living in.'

Since the extra allowance stopped Laura has put on a stone in just three weeks and claims she is being treated unfairly.

'It's heartbreaking that after all my hard work losing this weight someone's come along and ruined it.'

Laura has been offered another operation on the NHS, which would normally cost £12,000, to remove the saggy skin left behind after the dramatic weight loss, but only if she sheds a further five stone, until then she has no plans to find a job.

'I'm not even applying for work at the moment because I'm only going to have to have lots of time off when I have more surgery.'

Speaking from the two-bedroom flat she shares with unemployed boyfriend Simon Hawkins, Laura describes how she was shocked into embarking on the weight loss plan after her mother Doreen died of obesity-related complications on Christmas Eve 2005.

'A doctor told me that unless I lost 20 stone I wouldn't live to see my 25th birthday. He recommended I have a gastric sleeve op.'

Prior to the surgery Laura lost eight and a half stone by cutting out junk food and drinking diet shakes and has since lost a further seven stone after her stomach was shrunk by 75 per cent.

However, without the extra benefits Laura is worried she'll put the weight back on and says she can feel her stomach stretching after binging on the unhealthy snacks.

'I sometimes feel guilty about all the taxpayers' money that's been spent on me but I only want an extra £100 a month, that's all', says Laura

Lol, with bluno's posts regarding human laziness, pathetic-ness, etc, I can just see the steam rising and the head shaking. This one rates high on the darwinometer.

One thing is true; healthy food is more expensive than unhealthy food, in many cases.

Other than that...

Where's retrobok? Should make him proud to be Brit; they're becoming just like the Yanks. And where's wizard? That's why the Muslims hate the West. Imagine if all their women looked and wobbled like Laura Ripple! :D

* And what was retro saying about lazy, maggoty South Africans and their government hand outs? Ouch. This is going to sting.

Carrots, potatoes, peas, broccoli, pumpkin, tomatoes, onions - add a portion of protein of your choice - easy, healthy and cheap and worth your cents.
(unless you don't even have basic transmutational skills, then I agree raw potatoes and pumpkin are not that taste)

Diet crackers are expensive and obviousely of very low energy value.

I would not waste R15 on a packet of zero energy food, it simply does not make any sense lol, though I easily do it with drinks ie diet coke or pepsi.

Emotionally speaking I would only eat the finest dark chocolates 60- 70 %,
Steers King burgers, Kuwai Chicken salad wraps, swallow it down with some fine semi-dry champagne before I lie down with my remote to digest it, and it had better be a good action or sci-fi.;)

Wow thats just lazy and useless. People like that annoy me. Go for a walk or something rather than being fat and watching tv.

'I can't afford to buy WeightWatchers crisps and cereal bars any more...

lol, thats a pathetic excuse.

Weightwatchers food is only a little more expensive than normal food at sainsburys or tesco.

And is only marginally better for you as well. I love the fact that she is now "forced" to eat 4 packets of high-fat crisps per day. LOL...:D

Dis lekker by die see...

...some people expect other people to support their lifestyle - with which I don't agree. She can go find a job - or starve.

Unfortunately the world's full of people such as her, who expects freebies and handouts so that they don't need to work.

:(

She earns R12 126 per month.

WOW! 600 benefits + 340 disability = 940 pounds x 12.9 (exchange rate)

That is a heck of a lot of money for sitting at home nomming all day. Most of my expenses are as a result of my job (car repayment, petrol, work clothes, cost of living closer to work etc). I have way less than R12K change to play around with after that.

'I sometimes feel guilty about all the taxpayers' money that's been spent on me but I only want an extra £100 a month, that's all', says Laura.

Wait...what?!

Thats some ol bull sh*t about healthy food being more expensive. You don't need Weight Watchers diets - despite being low in calories, some of that food is too high in sodium to be considered all that healthy. How about fresh fruit, store brand yogurt, Special K cereal/muesli & veggies with tuna in water. Tap water instead of Coke.

And she is NOT 25! I'm 25 and she looks older than my mother. Anyway, I thought being overweight actually made you look younger in the face.

maybe she smokes? or its the yo yo effect of dieting. And she probably doesn't drink water.

Or maybe she lies about her age :erm:

Another genius, but on the lower end of the scale:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...join-I-anorexic-step-treadmill-killed-me.html

Anorexic wants to sue a gym for letting her join when she was too thin. This is after she'd been rejected from joining another gym.

What the?

I really think there are huge swathes of society who need government/authority figures/anyone else to think for them. Its beyond an eating disorder when you are told NO, by one gym and keep going to find another that will take you, despite allegedly being at death's door. These people are crying out for behavioral & thought control. Orwellian 1984 society, here we come.

She does not look 25 to me either.

Nanny states do that to people.

This is what I think:
