Why should I? I have seen too much, heard too much, experienced too much.
I have seen a young mother pinning her young son down ... to discipline him. I have seen mothers allowing their kids to run amok ... in a stranger’s house. Do they misbehave in the moment or are they ‘trained’ not to listen to their parents? I have seen a family ripping each other apart after the death of a love one. I have seen brothers and uncles fighting over a family bible. Is a family bible that important or is it about the monetary value?
AND then I have seen the simplicity in the animal kingdom where you are ... until you aren’t. You mate ... or you don’t. You rule ... or you don’t . You get the best piece of meat ... or you don’t. You suffer and die at the hand of your master .... or you don’t.
I have seen too much to elucidate here.
Am I too cynical? Is it about ‘eat’ or ‘be eaten’? Where is the human race heading and what will they do when there is nothing left to share?

Sounds like you would like to live in better world. We can only hope that you will after all still interact with people and be that change you want to see.

I often think I like animals more than I like people. If have to make a list of the 5 living things I love the most the majority of those will be animals....

When I think about how much people are doing wrong in my view, I try to remember how much they also do right. Also, what characteristics we see mostly clearly in others is what we fear or reflect in ourselves.

I've always tried to see the good in people and it's only lately that I've realised you can't trust anyone. It's disheartening and disappointing when I see that the values and morals I try to uphold are not present in people I thought I knew.

Took a flight today and offered my aisle seat to an elderly couple. The husband had just had his foot amputated and was given a window seat despite his request for an aisle. What check in agent wouldn't go out of their way to make this couple's flight as comfortable as possible?

Then I get to baggage reclaim and there is a 70 odd year old woman wrestling with her suitcase trying to get it on her trolley, while 5 or 6 people are standing next to her and watching. I literally ran around the carousel to help her and she was so grateful.

How can this generation have such little respect for each other, more so for elderly people who actually need help? I think the world is becoming such a disgusting place. I share your sentiments rubytox.

Not to put too fine a point on it...but your examples seem kinda tame tbh.

It always was and always will be.

I while ago I went grocery shopping. I looked around while waiting in line, noticed that the young couple behind me didn't even have a basket, looked like they'd come to pick up their lunch. 4 items, max. I had a full trolley. So - being a practical guy, I offered that they go ahead of me. The cashier looked at me like I was crazy or something.

But to tell the truth - I don't like anyone - someone once called me a equal opportunities racist. I've seen and heard too much to expect the best in people. I like kids and animals - no hidden agendas.

I too was at your end of the spectrum,Thinking that the world is cruel and harsh(maybe it actually is)
I wondered if everyone was a threat to me or not...I lied,I manipulated...all for this false sense of security & survival.
eventually I broke down,it was way too exhausting being on my guard all the time

My relationships with friends and family suffered
eventually I realized that we cant see the truth,we cant see the world for what it really is,there is always some bias somewhere.
So maybe the world isn`t as bad as I see it to be,maybe it isn`t as good as I`d like it to be...

Now I`m trying to balance my view on reality,it would be foolish to think that everyone is good and everything is fuzzy.
but not everyone is a psychopath trying to use and manipulate me.(maybe 1 in 10 people)

I find I`m happier, life is easier, but I also worry that I may be a fool for thinking along the middle line
only time will tell...

There is nothing tame about a mother pinning down her 7 year old son and beating the crap out of him ... because he interrupted a conversation. On the other side of the spectrum there are mothers who do not know how to set boundaries for their children.

I often travel on the M5. Last week I saw a severely abused dog. The dog was in a horrific condition. While I was trying to lure this dog to my car, another one came limping towards me ... with a broken hind leg. Only God knows what else goes on in our townships. Once you have seen a 3 month old baby bruised and battered or raped, it is hard not to question the human condition.
If I start the list of horrors perpetrated by humans, it will take years to complete.

Yes, eat or be eaten. It has always been that way. This will never change. It also applies in the animal kingdom but the rules are much simpler. Animals instinctively know that they fit somewhere on the food chain and can become food anytime.

I couldn't have said it better.
These days I am happiest when I spend time with young children and animals. I know that there are good people out there. The problem is that they are few and far between and as you rightfully point out, it is difficult to know when someone is deceiving you.

The most pointless endeavor in life is to search for the truth. When you get to the point where you accept that everything is a lie and simply deal with reality as it presents itself, you may find peace. I laugh at myself when I think about all the pointless debates and arguments I have had with other people to proof my point. In the end we all had it wrong.

>>MyBB is deep today.

Fake deep.

Take OP for example. See how everything about it is carefully crafted (well attempted anyway). Notice how its posted in the wrong subforum - not a casual mistake given OP is a grandmaster. Notice how it caters to the various sections of the mybb. e.g. Read OP line 1-4, then read bromsters response (which btw was respectable - a hint naive, but respectable). Then read line 5-6 followed by my initial response. Notice how OP is heavy on emotional topics (children, violence, death, bibles, future of humanity) without fielding anything resembling an argument. Note that no coherent line of thought is presented (see 1-4 vs 5-6). Notice how OP is apparently writing about a topic close to his hear "I don't like people", yet doesn't even both to format the post properly. Notice how he doesn't attempt to line up the OP's contents with the thread title in a meaningful way - which was clearly intended to attract clicks. Notice the open ended "catch-all" questions that have little to do with the rest of the post, but will trigger responses (future of humanity?!?).

Those who know me on mybb know that I'm generally serious & not much fun but inclined to help people if I can. Generally I only help people I approve of / am neutral about, but today I'm inclined to make an exception just for kicks. Allow me to help you OP - mainly because I'm getting tired of the clumsy attempts at manipulation and I could use a bit more excitement on mybb. So.....Firstly, you need an outside source. Doesn't matter what as long as it has an air of respectability about it and lines up with your intended line of reasoning. Something you can pass off as a trigger for your line of thought if its a touchy subject. Take great care in selecting said trigger - you'll be judged on its respectability. To illustrate & put this into the context of your attempted "I hate people": Open with something about a MACH-IV test. This has both scientific backing and more importantly an online versions exist. Provides a clean "result"....i.e. a simple number that is easily posted on a forum. Phrase the intro lines correctly and you A) capture their interest B) encourage participation by posting scores. Start the discussion by posting your own score (make sure its at the low end of high mach or just short). Encourage others to share their scores (the score don't matter much in themselves but very high & very low results favour your position). End the post with a story about a real-life example of some exhibiting said traits, preferably in an office environment that has a similar power structure as a dev house (given mybb crowd). Do this right & the thread will take on a life of its own. Look for high mach numbers among the responding people. Pick one of them & engage with them regarding something that will catch their interest. In this case dropping a phrase like say "dark triad" would work. If you think said person isn't quite on the ball the make the phrase click-able as in wikipedia - that should draw enough attention to it. If they respond favorably to this then move the interaction to PM & feed further relevant info...books seems to work particularly well for this particular type of person - esp if you sell it right. At this stage I'd suggest winding down the initial topic - either let it die down or side-track it into a harmless avenue. Avoid getting it locked it you can.

-----

I feel I should emphasis that I don't generally employ the above techniques on mybb (or anywhere else) - feel free to look at my thread creation history. Nor do I do so via sock puppets (I've got 1 unused alt account that I'll gladly declare to any respected member who asks (via PM)).

Speaking of PMs...I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this matter.

Well aren't you a little bundle of joy! Were you drunk when you wrote this? Judging by the spelling errors you could not have been sober or fully conscious. Now go play with the other kids.

Why is that?

He is right. Although I think there are more choices, but NZ is a good one. When I left SA to come and live in the UK, I thought I might be back in about 5 years or so. People are a lot less aggressive. It's only on living outside of SA that I could see how seriously messed up most people in SA are. But my experience in the UK is so very different. So much so that I came to the conclusion that the price we pay for the South African way of life is an unacceptable one. Having a 4 bedroom face-brick house with a swimming pool, double garage, 2 overpriced cars is not worth it. It's so easy to get it in SA, but you destroy yourself as a person in the process. You can get these things elsewhere in the world with more effort, but in a much better env :)
