Honestly for the price point my MWeb Uncapped 20mbps ADSL service has a pathetic usage threshold. What do their ads say? No more buffering? What a joke.

Due to MWeb's "fair use policy", I'm basically enjoying the 20mbps service that I pay almost R 2000.00pm for only 3-5 days of every month. Beyond that, it's throttled to like 3mpbs. What's fair about that?

What's fair about throttling at all? If you don't want users using your data, don't provide connections fast enough that would allow them to. As it is, I'm a paying customer and I'm hardly ever getting the value that I pay for; I feel cheated, conned, and tricked.

Some of these companies have the audacity to claim such policies are in place to "protect the integrity of the network as a whole" or some other such nonsensical drivel. What's all that about? One single client connection that can't do anything that you don't allow it to do is a risk to the entire network? Please...

Can't wait until they get to the fiber installations in my neighborhood so I can be done with this bullshit.

Note that my current usage is some ~50GB BELOW my usage threshold of 500GB... Yet I'm throttled anyway:

Your current product is: 20Mbps Uncapped ADSL Data
You have used 379.43 GB so far this month and your total usage for the past 30 days is 456.72 GB
Your last session was on 26 January, 2019, 00:41:09
Your connection status is Throttled

FUPs stem from the fact that international bandwidth is extremely expensive for ISPs..

They never buy enough international bandwidth to enable all their users to use their full line speeds, all at the same.. If they did, they would be bankrupt pretty soon..

FUPs allow ISPs to curb heavy users, to minimize impact on their relatively small international bandwidth capacity, so as to not degraded the experience of the majority of users on the network..

FUPs exist for very good reasons and are definitely needed for both ISPs and the vast majority of people who are simply doing day to day browsing..

So as I've always said... **** me for actually using the service that I pay for...

You should consider changing to Telkom. Their 20mbps services includes a FUP allocation of 1.8TB.

Well I don't think international capacity is the issue here. The issue is IPC costs from Openserve. International transit is not as expensive as IPC that is why you can pickup a 200/200 frogfoot Cool ideas setup for R1299 and it being completely unshaped and uncapped.

Now look at a similar speed on Openserve fibre. Price is double @ R2409. Same goes for ADSL/VDSL. Every ISP would need to have a sizable chunk of IPC which is expensive.

Whoops.. Thanks for the correction.. Confused myself..

Mweb still have customers ?
Currently with Mweb and vumatel can't complain, R1089 uncapped fibre 50mbs, my entire household can be streaming and my ping for games doesn't go up so I can't complain yet ;) My pc is first in line priority wise though

Also was informed after getting it that they removed the fair usage policy. Not sure how true that is but I don't use above my means anyway just some gaming and streaming.

So I've been messaging MWeb on twitter and they claim that 5 sleeping people in my house with no devices (computers, phones, tablets) powered on, somehow managed to use 50GB+ from 8am this morning even though we slept in and most people only got up around 11-12ish.

Having quoted my usage as reported on their website for today, I appear to have forced them into silence.
