Hi guys,
some time ago a read that South Africa is going the DVB T2 way and today I found the following channels (digital) of course:
Channel No.
001 SABC 1
002 SABC 2
003 eTV
004 Soweto
005 DTTV
006 CSN scrambled
007 Action scrambled
008 One Gospel scrambled
009 VuZu scrambled
010 Mzanzi scrambled
011 Cho scrambled
012 Faith scrambled
013 SABC 1
014 SABC 2
015 SABC 3
016 SABC News
017 SABC HD 1
018 TBN

You may be interested. But I also heard that SABC will go DVB S2 instead DVB T2

Is there any truth in this?

This only works on PC

This works on phones, tablets, tv boxes

The second option looks the best.

Any other recommendations below $30?

What channels are confirmed working?
Only these?
003 eTV
004 Soweto
005 DTTV
013 SABC 1
014 SABC 2
015 SABC 3
016 SABC News
017 SABC HD 1
018 TBN

Its at least 2 years ago when I got it and its around 350 Rand.

Yes all the channels I listed work quite well and in HD quality.

What I need to know is how to go about getting a subscription for the scrambled channels. I am quite willing to pay because same are movie and sport channels.

Is your DVB-T2 box still working? Are you located in Gauteng?

In 2007/8 I used to receive the DVB-T signal (64QAM)-- was crystal clear in Centurion. I threw out all DSTV decoders last year already, but would like to have the capability of receiving SABC and ETV digitally (and, for some strange reason, having to pay R240p.a. for FTA, only to have the signal fade everytime it rains, kind of irks me).

So, I bought a quadcore Android DVB-T2 box through Aliexpress and set it up, but there's nothing. :-( I am in Midrand at the moment, antenna pointing to Kameeldrift.
Called Sentech and was put through to a really nice, knowledgable chap who confirmed that they are broadcasting, but the signal may be unreliable at the moment as it is not officially open in Gauteng -- only where the minister is handing out STBs.

He said that they are broadcasting on two muxes, both using 8Mhz (same as analogue). One mux is on 738 Mhz, containing 7 TV channels and 19 radio channels, the other on 770Mhz with Multichoice (scrambled) and E-TV.

I'd really like to get it to work. I know that the SABC is not exactly popular with MyBroadband forumites (for some strange reason ), but I like getting tech to work, plus I am learning an African language, and lastly it is my right as an SA citizen to receive a signal from the state broadcaster (that my tax money pays <most dearly> for, month after month, year after year). So please guys, save the acidic comments for the pub.

So, is yours working in Gauteng, and if so, what is your antenna bearing ? Kameeldrift / Helderkruin / Brixton?

A few years ago when I bought my TV with built in DVT receiver I was supprised at the tech working Helderkruin. After two weeks the TV guide stopped updating. Then a new tower was errected 200m from my house and the signal stopped ever since.

do you still have them, or can you get them, the link doesn't allow deliveries to South Africa....
