Well after months of leeching off my cousin's 360 and also now that exams are over, I caved and bought the Mongoose special i.e. Halo Edition console with Halo3, Forza 2 and (spit) Viva Pinata, play and charge kit etc. for R4K.

Setup was a breeze except that I overlooked one small thing i.e. audio. I stupidly bought a standard HDMI cable and DVI-HDMI adapter for R500 and have nowhere to plug my 3.5mm headphones :(. Now I gotta play without sound until I can get my hands onto the VGA cable and a RCA-3.5mm connector. And just my luck that NOBODY seems to have stock of the VGA cable now. :(

Other than that, I was surprised that I had ZERO problems getting onto LIVE. I read quite a few stories of people having trouble with their NAT when setting up Live for the first time so I was expecting a tough time, but it was actually pretty painless.

I played a few Arcade games and once I load some MS points I'm gonna grab Bomberman Live. Also played a bit of Forza and Halo. So right now I'm pretty happy, once I get my sound set up I'll be in heaven. :)

Looking forward to playing online soon. :D

Grats on the box!

Start a career, then start racing people once you get the hang of things ;)

@Abe, yeah . . . like I said in my other post ;)

@ Feo - definitely start a career! You need credits to buy parts and upgrade your car and you'll earn them a heck of a lot faster in SP than trying to take on hardcore online players. As I said to Dolby as well - set your difficulties to your favour, the game doesn't penalise you, but you can earn quite hefty bonuses if you give up things like ABS and traction control -

It also makes the game a lot better - the "noobisms" make all the cars fell like you're driving a wet blanket, turn them of and you can really feel the dynamic difference between every car ;)

The other "big tip" - don't drive like a noob. :p Seriously, don't just floor the pedals and throw the steering hard lock, feather the accelerator and brake like you would a real car, it's a sim, not an arcade racer.

Congrats on the purchase!!

Just a word of advice though regarding audio, you wont be able to drive headphones directly from the RCA ports, you need a small pair of desktop speakers with headphone inputs to get it working properly.

I suggest the Genius SP-i200 Portable 6 Watts, the reason for this is the following:

- It's a single, small unit.
- They can run on battery (pretty sure if you're just using them to push through headphone audio they should run for quite a long time)
- The input cable of the speakers are a male to male 3.5mm connector so you can take this out and simply plug in one of those small two female rca to male 3.5 connector converters into the back of it.

I thought you got a VGA cable in the box?

Anyway, since I have a few millions lying about in Forza 2 and am in a generous mood, send a friend request to bd260f and I'll gift you any car you want. You can test drive most of them in Arcade mode right away.

Thanks I'll send one now. ;)

And no, no VGA cable in the box, not even an HDMI cable.

congrats FEO. JUst remember you bought your xbox for one reason: GEARS OF WAR. try to get it k.

Seems like the HDMI cable is only bundled with the Elite then. Strange.
