Luckily I haven't personally met someone who does this... but the day I do, I will punch them in the face.

How about adding a detailed description of each for those not in the know so they can stop making said mistake...

Dude, seriously.
Tomayto, tomaato.
They're pretty much the same thing, so stop with the technical nit-picking

It makes me very angry when someone refers to their coffee as Javascript.

Agree...

seen a few to many CV's where the candidate says they have Java Skills, which end up just being a jquery knowledge.

Or my personal favorite was a Job Spec that required a Java Developer for a Web Application written in PHP. A Basic PHP, MySQL application :(

I don't mind correcting them, but I can see the frustration where they are very arrogant about it.

I can feel them painz, if they think JavaScript is Java on a CV....

If you don't know the difference between Java and Javascript you have no business being in any meeting where these topics are even remotely discussed.

If you have to ask what the difference is between Java and Javascript then you don't need to know.

I did this in a meeting once. I referred to something as Java and then somehow beyond my own volition, the appendix 'script' slipped from my mouth. I was witnessing myself make the error in real-time, and once it had irrupted from my bowels it could never be taken back. I think those guys still patronise me.

The other is a scripting language for web browsers.":D
