It always seems to me special occasions such as Valentines Day cause issues that a normal day wouldn't.

WTF is up with that? And strangely it is assumed that MEN must buy the gifts. Who decided this?

Only a woman could've thought of this day. Here follows the days I buys gift's

Christmas Day (only for Children and new Girlfriends:D)

Mother's Day (My mother not the mother of my children after all she is not MY mother)

Birthday's (come on, the dude / dudette that makes your life hell was born, buy yourself a little black dress / new Blackberry to morn his/her birth:D)

Oh let me not forget THE most important day. PAY DAY:D

I always buy myself some Tennessee Sour Mash Bourbon

I've bought boyfriends gifts on valentine's day. It's difficult though, because most men don't really want a teddy bear or roses :)

I used to buy my ex V-day gifts too. Most times though I was broke but I always made a plan to let him know that he meant something - meaningful gifts dont have to cost a lot of money. If you're creative you can give a gift that costs nothing but means everything...

I agree with that, it's the amount of thought that matters - not necessarily the price tag.

@superB: How bout one or two suggestions...

Well these are really cheesey but it's an example of some of things i've done:

1) A small gift bag full of bits and pieces (a small chocolate, a flower from the garden, a personally mixed cd, a photo etc) with a little hand made card that read 'Love is made up of all the little things...'

2) A small gift box with a lock of my hair (cut from underneath where it wont be missed) and a card that read 'A piece of me to keep with you always..'

Like I said, really cheesey, but neither cost me more than R50.

I hate valentines day for the same reason I hate Christmas - it has very little to do with showing you care and a lot to do with commercial brainwashing & enrichment

But I still want someone to tell me they care - even if it is a lie. That way I can fool myself for another 4seconds and life is 2seconds richer.

Why 2seconds? Because I'm like a goldfish with a 3second memory and it takes 1second for me to remember that...

I'm so tired of the whole "romantic" restaurant thing where they overbook, make everything in batches and drain the event of all atmosphere that I am now going away for the whole weekend into the bos.

Problem solved - Valentine's dinner = potjiekos.

Underneath as in behind on MY HEAD. The thing attached to my SHOULDERS.

*mumble something about all these minds swimming in the gutters*

superB - let me get this straight - so instead of buying your man a gift, you instead spent that money on a haircut for yourself and then gave him a piece of the floor-debris as a token of how much he means to you? How long did that relationship last? :p
