Call out to the office. Both ADSL lines down - still sycning (hence no faults found by Telkom), but cannot connect to any providers. 8ta backup 3G connection completely dead. Everything was working earlier this afternoon.

Vodacom may be expensive but at least their 3g is working.

Yeah I can easily top that. ADSL was done here too.

Used my BB as a wifi hotspot to share internet to my PC due to an emergency. Forgot I had a NZB downloader running in the background. HSDPA @ R2 for like half an hour....F.U.C.K.

Gonna be a fun cellphone bill that...

Ouch! NZB over 3g never a good thing :)

I'm gatvol now, tried 3 different modems on both lines no joy.

Wooosa.

A friend of mine had something like this happen to his ADSL on two occasions this year. He phoned Telkom and on both times asked them to "reset the ports" or something to that nature. This fixed the problem.

And you pray like hell that it does, because its the *only* trick the call center has. After that its get a ticket reference & wait week(s) for the tech.

Same thing here since earlier last night ... pathetic

I know the feeling, bro. My line has been completely dead for more than a week now  I have no clues if they are actually working to get it back to normal  MTN 3G sucks big time

It's a problem with the ATM at the exchange when something like that happens. Your ADSL may be syncing but it can't connect to the outside world to auth. Phone Telkom and just ask "When is the exchange going to be back online" instead of moaning that your ADSL is not working (pretend like you already spoke to someone who told you the exchange was faulty). Because as soon as they hear "ADSL" they assume it's your fault and you're the only one with the issue.

Happened a couple of times with me 2 years back where the exchange would go down but the sync was fine, also, if all else fails, speak afrikaans and get someone in afrikaans to help you. They usually know / care a bit more about their job to do it properly and help you further than the drone who can barely pronounce "telkom" let alone speak/understand england

Eish... same here... just came back online this morning. My line's been down since Wednesday morning.. line syncs at full speed but no account will authenticate.

Apparently it is my line they need to come and check here at the house... :wtf: and a technician will be "allocated" soon to attend to my "requested call-out".

Hmmmm... I did not request a call-out, I requested they check their exchange.

All working again this morning and all accounts are authenticating.

Ho-Hum

Weeks? You're doing it wrong, I get them out the next day :p

Hell they even replaced my line 2 days after I reported issues with it :wtf:

@OP If it syncs but no providers can connect it's most likely a case of a link that's down somewhere to your exchange.

Mine also back this morning.

Phoned Telkom and they told me that our exchange has an issue with corroded lines and they are busy fixing it now. They better hurry up, I really don't feel like spending the weekend in the office trying to keep the internet running.

My line's been dead for 2 days now ..

Damn I never thought I'd miss my 2mbps (disfunctional 4mbps) line.

Some relief. The techie came in about an hour ago. Apparently there were plenty of complaints in the building and both our lines are now stable.

Now hope it stays like this.

Well that didn't last too long.

Both lines crapped out around 19:30 for a few minutes, came back with heavy packet loss and now they seem to work again. SNR was sitting between 16 - 20 this afternoon and now its back down to 10 - 12.

Good thing the techie is coming back on Monday for call outs to the adjacent offices, will have to hunt him down then.

I think it depends on the area. :) Where I stay, the Telkom techs usually come out at the latest the next day, and are quite efficient when doing fault repairs. Luckily.
