Hi everyone, I have a Canoscan Life 90 - which probably will never have Linux drivers.

What are my options? Should I try to swop it with someone for a scanner which is Linux compatible? And how would I word such a request?

At this point I can't afford to replace it. I have almost got my iPod set up properly on Linux, one of the last reasons I have to dual boot is for when I need to scan something.

Hey Hey

You could possibly true this;

VueScan Scanner Software
VueScan is an application for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux that replaces the software that came with your scanner. Download VueScan today to see why 10 million people have used it to get the most out of their scanner.

Might be an option.

Hi @I.got-issues, at $40 unfortunately vuescan is not an option.

I'm a bit broke atm

$40 dollars... ouch!

I was thinking along the lines of an "Aarrrgh me matey" version. :whistle:

I am sure the linux gurus will point you perhaps in another alternative direction here.

If you can organise collection from PE I've got an old Genius VividScan 1200XE that you can have, just tested it on Fedora 20 and it's working fine.

Only a minor fiddle to setup in linux see here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1394193 - ignore all the windows stuff about the ccd569.fw file, I'll send you a link.

PM me if interested.

I run my Canoscan 8800f from a virtualbox with xp. Be wary of vuescan, you need to check whether your scanner is native usb or rewired parallel port. Vuescan does not work with rewired parallel port scanners under linux.

Someone who read through this thread has offered me a Linux compatible scanner :)
