So there i was merrily downloading a Linux ISO, got to 58% and suddenly connection dies....

I check, I have reached my cap, fair enough, so i should drop on to 64kb link....

but instead, download dies and i have wasted 3oomb of our precious little cap we recieve from iBurst and will now have to start all over again...

Question is this: Why if we have to pay for our usage of a set capped amount which is precious to us can we not get iBurst to reimburse our cap when there systems go down and we have to start again?

I think that sounds fair...

Hi man ;)

You should really take advantage of download managers, they download files, connect to more than one link and you can resume the download after you've started it (if the server supports it, which is 80% of the time)

I've recently literally stumbled upon a great download manager which is really fast and compares well to the paid versions.

Get it here:

http://www.orbitdownloader.com/download.htm

Free Download Manager is also very good. I thought most Linux distros were obtained through FTPs? Majority of those clients (Filezilla is a good freeware one at that) support resuming. Or is that downloading a Linux ISO quote-unquote ;)

thanks, download managers are an option, but the point is this, if iBurst cut us off half way through a download and we end up wasting "valuble" data from our cap, do we have any recourse against them? They charge us a fortune, shape our traffic to **** and sorry to say but there support is practically non existent...

I used FDM for more than 6 months, give Orbit a go, you'll see it's about 30% faster than FDM ;)

I guess the argument from iBurst might be prove to them that the connection was terminated from their side and not from were you were downloading your files.

I had the same problem once and was using GetRight download manager downloading the Vista Beta and lost about 2gig or 3gig of bandwith because the connection died and I was capped and the download restarted because the server "Microsoft" did not support resuming

Thats an easy one.... I can see a new session started on my usage logs on there side just after it happened and i reconnected

How do you see usage logs on there side?

Btw, I'll try that Orbit downloader, does it support FlashGot?

IMO, iburst do it to stop users from just staying connected all the time like adsl users & abusing the system by raping download, this forces you to get and new IP and get capped :(

feh... I love download managers with resume support... especially when you need to download some data files over a shirty line that drops regularly... :D

I've been capped before where downloads just kept going.. only they dropped to capped speeds. I haven't noticed this otherwise myself, but I guess it's quite possible.

The ADSL guys get cut off every day at a certain time. It's a very quick reset, but it drops you from online games so I'm sure it would do the same to downlads, but every day...

heh.. there are download managers without resume support? I'm sure they've died out long ago..

Whats terrible is crappy servers without resume support :(

I'm a fervent anti-iBurst person but if you use a download manager like GetRight this is not an issue. I've many a time crossed the not capped to capped boundary while downloading and my downloads have not started from scratch. I actually make notice of any sites I download from that do not support resume.
