Sentech has committed in previous communiqué with it’s customers that they would constantly implement changes to it’s existing MyWireless services to improve the overall quality thereof. To this end Sentech is in the process of changing it’s bandwidth management platform to allow better sharing of it’s International bandwidth to all it’s users. Key to the changes will be the ability for customers to be able to utilise all spare bandwidth during the slow or off-peak periods. Tests are currently being conducted internally to ensure all variables are taken into consideration and further communication will follow prior to implementation. Sentech has also begun implementation of it’s next rollout phase of MyWireless high sites to extend it’s existing 60 base station coverage within Gauteng, Durban and Cape Town. The focus on this phase will be to consolidate coverage within the central metropolis of Gauteng initially, followed by extending the reach of MyWireless to other large cities nationally.

What scares me is how long it's taken for them to come to the conclusion that it's a good idea to share unused bandwidth when it's available ?

Planet Sentech must be a lonely and odd little world, considering one of the key measures any ISP puts in place is effective bandwidth management.

It's taken Sentech over a year to realise this ?

My eyes! The grammar! Aaargh!

i read that Sentech is now going to offer wireless digital TV. I wonder how much bandwidth is needed for that?

Insert your own sarcasm...

" Sentech COO Gladwin Marumo says it is a matter of urgency that government allows the State-owned enterprise to upgrade its transmitter network so that digital television-type services can be broadcast.

...

Marumo said Sentech is testing digital broadband video-handheld (DBV-H) to transmitters in Pretoria and Johannesburg, and a standard such as DBV-H will allow broadcast-quality services to be downloaded directly to handheld devices such as cellphones. "

i think they should try to offer broadband internet before venturing into such exotic stuff

LOL!!!!

I hope Sentech takes heed and fixes their scruffy network.

Sentech wants R300 million from the taxpayers to fund their latest gimmick. A new digital distribution system for Television. Basically they want DSTV style kit. Not like the market for it isn't 100% saturated already.

But guess what the whole MyWireless fiasco has cost them thus far... I think someone at Sentech's looking to crook the taxpayers _again_
