Got home Friday night and realised that I still had 2Gb, (Yes two), available.
So I did what any sane person who is about to lose money, in this case GB's, would do, I started downloading those ISO's etc that I had been so hesitant to do during the month.
Man, things were just flying. I downloaded this, I downloaded that, whatever my heart desired, all at a constant 120Kbytes a second. I was like a kiddy in a store who had been given carte blanche, remember those Mnet shows they had with the Reggy’s toystore, where the Kids could keep whatever they loaded in their shopping carts? I was like that.
And then 5 o’ clock Saturday morning IT happened. I got the dreaded CAP.
Suddenly the downloads ground down to a 6 Kbytes. No more downloading AND surfing. It was one or the other. Mail didn’t want to download while downloads were running. Page time-outs were the order of the day. Anti-virus definition files were timing out. The Speed Tests were ignored, local and international.
Oh the pain!!!
And then the fear started. Would I be disconnected because I still had unfinished downloads? Would I be forced to buy an additional 1Gb just to be re-connected?
Worst, Would I also be labelled an “ABUSER” because I had dared think that being capped meant you still had the functionality only at reduced speeds.
I didn’t want to know. I switched off my cellphone, I left the house and went shopping, I even went out on Saturday night just so that I would not be able to receive the dreaded call informing me that I was an “ABUSER”. After all, I was still running some downloads which had not completed. I still needed to get about 100 megs for the one file. I went to sleep early, phone still switched off. I didn’t dare pause the download to download to download my mail. I didn’t want to see the dreaded mail.
This morning I woke up.
My Modem was still connected, My download which had stalled with about 50 Megs still to go, was restarted and within minutes had completed. My bandwith usage said that I had 3 Gb available.
Life is Sweet again. Until next month
