After trying to find a friends house in Durbanville.

I live in Parklands so I went through Koeberg road down to Bothasig and down past Kleinbosch on that road. It's the road that I used to get to Tyerberg High school. I kept going down that road and there's a circle that leads to Goodwood, according to Google maps I was supposed to go straight down and turn left into Voortrekker road. Then go down somewhere...

Anyways long story short is I ended up in Belville near stones, then went around ended up at Standard Bank in Brackenfell, eventually turned off into Kuils Revier... ffs. Then after about an hour of guidance over the phone I found Durbanville and they even had to meet me half way.

To make it worse on the way home it was dark and I got lost, ended up at Parow Industrial area with a **** load of roadworks and signs, trucks everywhere. I went futher down and found an old blanked out sign saying cleaning services.

I was like omfg I'm going to get raped here. I phoned my mom and she told me to ride around until I found a shopping mall that she would know where is.

I somehow found Vootrekker again and was able to get home that way.

Got home at 1:15 pm.

And and to make matters worse I ride a scooter so I was freezing my ass off and had to stop everytime I wanted to pick up my phone.

recommend me a competent GPS please I really need it.

Hey bro

Game is having an awesome special on GPS systems this week, from R799 for a tom tom or Garmin

Will those be able to handle the vibrations of a scooter or will I have to get off to see where I am going each time?

Wow thats quite a route you took, remember when I started driving the route I kept going through dunoon at 2 in the morning lol

I have never been there, apparently you can buy booze anywhere even at little cafe's. After 11 pm, it's packed in between the chips and fish xD

Don't smartphones support GPS apps?

I used my iPhone for years, until I bought a car with built in GPS.

Android devices (not sure about Iphone) have the google navigate app. Voice guide works well. Not sure how it would work on scooter though.

iPhone has one.

Even in a car it's tricky using a smartphone. Use it the same way you would have used the old map books. Plan the journey and pull over at a safe spot to get your bearings. Not as convenient as having the larger gps screen, but far cheaper than buying a gps.

My android device moves along exactly like a GPS, no need to pull over and check anything, it just does exactly what my old GPS did, with better maps as they are at least updated far more regularly.

Congratulations IS, you have now seen hookers...even if you didn't know it.

Getting the GPS is easy. Its the bloody map updates that are the problem....costs of those things are ridiculous.

TomTom comes with a certain numberof months of map updates and when you buy a new map it will have the same feature - at the moment they're running a promo of R880 for SA+ 12 months updates (that's 3 or 4 I think in a 12 month period) + another 6 months updates - got a mail about it yesterday.

Personally I use Google Navigation on my phone right now as it's quicker, more up to date and easier to use - just nails my battery.

I'm looking forward to when GPSes are released that run Android - just a plain GPS like my TomTom but effectively running Google Navigation
