I need a mobile SQL

Why did the OP not go with HSQLDB ? Good go between when u want SQL Server standard knowledge of functions etc without the licensing though not sure as a permanent db. it's a flat file sort of in the end tho..

About Swist and it's absorption into Isis (no offence), I jumped ship months before they moved to Cape Town (due to a power tripping MD). My biggest work was on police case sub-system used as part of our solution for Vodacom, but also some other projects like the community services management system. Many moons ago. Glad I has those opportunities.

hahaha interesting. meh i still get harassed by recruiters for to work on that etl dev language 8yrs later lmfao.

you referring to Ab Initio ?

:D :D :D That steaming pile of **** - at one stage Swist was balls deep into that. We even had our own division called Ab Initio Center of Excellence. They all dressed up smart for work while the rest of us were jeans and t-shirt devs. Personally I could not take the whole idea seriously. I mean, Ab Initio is essentially the carcass of what remained after Thinking Machines went tits up in 1994 and the vultures, first Sun then Oracle, were done picking the corpse.

Nee dankie, hou verby!

LOL yes what a POS! I know exactly which (very high up) person at the customer whose 'great' idea it was. At some stage it was supposed to replace mediation as well? I knew from the start that it was a total fail..... I can reminisce for ages about one abortion after the other in that environment...

Totally off topic so ignore this if it does not apply to you. At the height of our Ab Initio craze the front-ends we produced were all in Silverlight :crylaugh: :crylaugh: :crylaugh: Talk about putting all your money on the wrong horse. I wonder if they ever got to rewrite those solutions.

When the MD screwed us over and said the company was going to move from Stellenbosch to the ISIS building there was a mass exodus of skilled senior devs. She did not even bat an eyelid and in her infinite wisdom decided that she would replace each senior dev with two junior devs that would cost her a lot less. Just goes to show you can have an MBA and still be a d..mbf...k.

I'm not complaining though, worked out very well for me, I had three job offers and picked the best one.

Silverlight.. Sure glad I didn't back that horse. Clearly she had no clue. But likely she didn't have a choice? I remember just when I started at Isis I interviewed with Herman and Jannie for the MD job. But didn't want to make another move so soon. Where you now?

They chose the candidate that ticked the most BEE boxes from what I recall  Currently I am at MiX Telematics and loving it.

Ah right. Embedded dev now? Or more applications? Is there any relation between Mix and Global Telematics? I think GT had intl shareholding.

Back-end Dev, mostly C#, T-SQL and an in house scripting language. The Stellenbosch office is basically the internal dev house for the global company. Cheaper to pay devs using the $ -> ZAR conversion.

I did a job once for Global Telematics. IIRC it was an app on a WinMo device that interfaced via BT to the vehicle 'black box' to display dispatch address etc... Their black box had its own dev environment etc
