As per title, I need a new pan for general cooking of whatever.. I am tired of these bloody pans that warp with even the tiniest bit of heat..

Cast iron is out, too heavy for the wife, unless this really is the best option out there (yes, I know cast iron won't warp with heat, I just don't want to hear the complaints from wife about how heavy the pan is, every time she uses it)..

I have no max budget for this new pan, so recommend away...

Thanks..

I accidently bought a pan at Checkers about 6 weeks ago as it looked damn sexy for R79
After i paid for it i got home and checked receipt and it was almost R300

I was not impressed but i wasnt gonna go back and complain, i have been using it constantly and it is the smoothest most awesome pan in the world. Cleaning it takes less than 10 seconds

I own loads of cast iron pans and they are fun to cook with but not always stick free. I only clean them with running hot water and never soap nor detergent. A cast iron pan develops a personality with its flavours. Most people have a pan for bacon only, and a pan for something else.

You need to go YouTube this stuff, there is tons of info out there that will tickle your fancy. Asking here on a forum will not give you the result you are looking for. ;)

On the cheaper pans the ones for induction stoves seem to warp less as they have the stainless steel disk embedded in the base which is pretty solid.

Okay, I'm a ceramic and cast iron kinda guy, but if cast iron is out...

Yuppie Chef's ceramics

@ home also has pretty good cookware too.

We use Le Creuset but only their cast iron pans. Works really well.

We also have WMF pans. They are like the gold standard for pots, but well you will pay a pretty penny. Right up there with Henckels knives.

So we've got two Greenpan erm...pans. They're very good. I also have one of those Tevo/Benett Read stoneware jobbies for R300 something at game a good while back ... and it's the shizznit. I leave the fancy Greenspan's for the wife :p

EDIT: This one. Don't ask me why it works so great, the price suggests it is crap.

And then these:

I have that one, it’ll be too heavy for a chick, unless you move it for her.
It’s good for chateaubriand.

I have one similar to this.
Lasted 10 years so far.

And this Swiss diamond pan for omelettes, fried eggs etc.

Best pan ever, had it for 12 years I think.
This is a great price.

Preheat you pots and pans for about 5mins on low heat. How I avoid warping when cooking...

But I only use cast iron.

Thanks for the suggestions so far people.. should have added, I have an induction cooktop, so some suggestions here are ruled out as a result of that..

Cast iron seems to be the most recommended so far..

What are you planning to use the pan for? I know everyone is different, but I don't have a 'general' pan. I have cast iron, stainless steal and non-stick. Each has its uses.

I have gas, but have personally found that the Tefal range of non-stick pans to be my longest lasting and most favoured pans. Going for over 3 years now and has stood up to quite a bit of abuse, cannot compare to the other non-stick rubbish .

All stainless steel is a close second.

This after a very expensive verimark Bauer pan mistake in 2004, will never ever touch another verimark product again.
