Guys can anyone recommend a reputable VOIP provider and if so do you think it is feasible to switch over to VOIP with figures indicated below.

My friend is in Roodepoort/Florida and he wants to save some bucks if he can.

He has 3 premicells, 2 lines 1x adsl - 348k (he needs an upgrade)

MONTHLY
Average Cell Cost:R12k - > R14k
Average Telkom:R3k -> R5k
10 Users

He is concerned with ADSL not working always if he will be able to use his existing equipment.

Correct me if I am wrong but all the equipment interconnects so the VOIP will switch over to his existing telephone network.

I will appreciate your input and I will pass along the business if you can help him.

Hi

You can use a Quintum VoIP gateway which can connect to any tradition TDM PBX. Thus saving you the cost of having to replace your whole PABX system. Unfortunately I cannot recommend any good ISP`s as I have not found a very reliable ISP, I have had hands-on experience with MWEB; Telfree; Switch2IP; GVSC and TalknetAfrica which has been sequestrated. Vodacom is a new upcoming VoIP ISP which will be in the market soon.

You could perhaps try VOX as they are the biggest VoIP ISP out there.

Hi Dirk

Thanks for the advice, I will give them VOX a shout. I am just scared they get closed down for running some sort of pyramid scheme hence me looking for alternatives.

Do you think he will have a significant saving if he moves over to VOIP though or will he just be wasting his time??

pclink: The saving will depend quite a bit on what rates he is currently paying on the premicells and the level of overflow from the premicells. You need to get hold of copies of his Telkom and premicell phone accounts to analyze this.

A good VoIP SP will take the time to assist you in going through the accounts and calculating what sort of saving you can expect, taking into account the costs of any new equipment required, potential savings on both calls and line rentals, etc.

Since this is a business facility, reliability and service commitment are paramount. Accordingly, I would not suggest that you even consider any SP who is not willing to take the time to prepare a cost saving calculation for you. There should be no charge for them to prepare the proposal.

pclink: VOX is quite a big company and they wont just collapse like that; the VOX Telecomms group consists of the following companies: VOX; Datapro; Atlantic Exchange; and Orion Telecomms.

and you can make money out of your client when they phone you!

give OBAN a try (www.oban.co.za) - they have direct connects to the cell networks via Transtel and the quality of calls and service is generally very good.

I am using and selling vox products... it's not a pyramid scheme...

A pyramid scheme is like a chain letter... you pay money to be part of it, and the money get's filtered up the pyramid. When you sign up people, there money filters up past you and you get a share. When they sign people the green is seen again.

Vox however doesn't pay people for signing people into the network. You are only paid for actual products and services sold and delivered. You get paid a commission. You also get paid a commission based on your network's sales and deliveries. So it is vital that you look after and nuture your network.

Hi PClink, what your friend in florida can do is to buy a fritbox (www.fritzbox.eu) and sign up two VOIP-accounts.. one for free landlinecalls ( www.voipraider.com) and one for having an accsessable VOIP-telephonenumber e.g. www.sipgate.co.uk ... if you sign up www.sipgate.co.uk too, its like phoning inside the same provider-network..and thats free of charge. I´m in Berlin and in SA ..having systems like this installed since 18month on both sides..working like charme.. phone-telkomSA costs = 0 only basic charge+ADSL, sipgate = 0 and voipraider = 0 :)

ps: you dont even need a fritzbox..you can use PC and softphone-software
