Hi all, great forum here!

I applied for the 384k adsl line in oct 2004, telkom responded after like a month only to inform they cannot supply me with a line due to:

1) a technical fault on my line that cannot be fixed
2) they dont have a line to supply

and my exchange does support adsl.

Can anybody help to rectify this?? Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Sunil(Bramley)

Keep phoning every 2 days ... forever.

Eventually they will give in and install one.

Escalate to the manager, regional manager, CEO's office ...

Yes i agree. Pester them till they crack! If you look in the front of the phonebook it outlines the "procedure" to follow for a complaint. Read it, it's quite amusing... Besides, they should have spares in your local cable which they are very reluctant to use. Give them a good reason to use one -ie: to get rid of you. Also, phone 10219 after 7pm and it won't be so busy. Good luck!

And it helps if you get yourself as clued up as possible. Get to know everything there is about ADSL, how it works, the procedures etc.

Because once they start installing, you will need to check up on them and sometimes even tell them how to do their work.

And yes, just keep phoning and bugging and take names and escalate.

G'luck!!!

:)

This good news will bring a bad Telkom account!

Go here!

http://www.telkom.co.za/portal/page...s/portal/docs/page/adsl/requirements1.jsp?g=2

Find on this page the sentence;

To confirm whether or not your exchange is ADSL enabled please click here

enter your telephone number in the popup window, click enter and you will know if your exchange support ADSL

ADSL is available to all the number for Bramley that I haved checked - please do note tell Telkom it's on their site - they might take it way!

. Telkom cannot guarantee the provision of ADSL access service which is subject to network availability, distance, copper quality, available ports and line sync speed limitations.

Taken form that same page....

Checking if your exchange is ADSL ready is only the first step, after that, numerous other factors can still go wrong.

Why not send a letter to a newspaper in which you apply with the SNO at unknown address for an ADSL service?

If you write it a bit witty, they might just publish it.
ROFL!!!

I was also thinking that you could try lodging a complaint at www.ASASA.org.za - on the grounds that Telkomonopoly has falsely advertised bcos ADSL is available on your exchange, and they never flighted a disclaimer saying that they might not provide ADSL in cases where they refuse to fix existing line problems.

Apply for 4 adsl lines, it will trigger the Telkom Wallet buzzer..

When they come install it, which should happen the next day lol just cancel 3 of them :)

The problem, I have noticed, is not the fact that Telkom fails to deliver, it's the monkies they outsource TO come install/check your ADSL line. It took 11 weeks for them (and me constantly phoning) to call me and tell me they're ready to install. Private contracters & BEE & AA is making Telkom what it is today.

Rather fire everyone. The business would run better that way

lol, I don't know why you all have a problem with telkom :)

I ordered the line the wednesday, 1 week later it was installed and running fine. Lucky I guess, but I have not had any problems with their service. But ... once again, it comes down to the employees. I have most of the telkom dsl techie cell nrs. So i just phone and tune them, hey I ordered another line, come install it please, here is the order nr. blah blah blah. ;)

... I'm sorry ,but that's utter BULL**** .... you've hit a nerve, if that's your opinion then this is also my opinion ... but I'm not going to tolerate someone talking trash about a certain race or gender .... such ignorance

If telkom decided to bring whoever they thought was competent, why blame those individuals and not telkom, it's telkom's mistake... afterall you pay telkom and not those individuals you've singled out... do me a favour and think before you write these uncalculated yet demeaning statements.

I'm out !!!

Geez! I agree with Noble_Nanobot. Telkom, being what it is, is not because of BLACK Economic Empowerment or AA. I'm pretty sure there's white people working for Telkom.

Racist people should emigrate! Get your facts right. I blame our useless telecoms minister for all this BS.

And the monkeys you are talking about are actually the already underpaid individuals who have to attend to both faults and Installations instead .... now telkom halves their total employee base in less than 5 years and overwork their current "already-worried-about-their-future" employees and they make a 4.5 Billion profit and you don't blame them at all.

My ADSL took 9 Weeks to install.... I was mad @ Telkom.

I think it has a lot to do with the area in which you live. Like with all businesses you get certain departments that are swithced on and some that are totally useless. It all depends on the management in charge.

I'm located in the Centurion area and can't complain. Everytime they had to do some sort of installation it was done quite quickly. I have to admit they will make an appointment for sometime in the week and then phone on the Sunday morning before, and tell me they are on their way. They probably get paid overtime, but I'm not going to complain as I do get my service.

Yeah well - my experience can confirm this: it depends on the area. I used to have good service when necessary up to 10 December 2004, when I moved to another area. I was promised transfer of my facility by latest Monday 10 January 2005, depending on compliancy testing of the exchange. This was duly confirmed on 22 December, so I waited expectantly for the 10th. Unsurprisingly, that date came and went, as did the 20th and 31st January - dates promised by the 10219 call-centre and the local Telkrap service centre lady behind the counter. I walked into the centre on Tuesday 01 February as soon as it opened, and literally ranted and raved, demanding immediate action. I was actually given the use of a phone to call the yokels down in Durban - where the ADSL 'management' apparently is located - and spoke to the bossman (somebody called Gerhard Gaillard), who said I would be contacted on my cell. Lo' and behold, I received a call from somebody called Verana, who said that the Project Manager for the area (somebody called Gary Lang) had scheduled the installation for the 10th February - it could not be done sooner, as their techie resources were limited. I'm sure you can imagine what my response was (cf. $iswe's bonus, retrenchments, etc.), and cynically told her she could expect a visit from me in Durban after the 10th, if it did not happen. To cut a long story short, my line was installed on the 10th, with the techie being clearly very relieved at the fact that he had to deal with a client who knew what's what, and all he had to do was glue the cable to the wall, install the socket and make sure the port was allocated at the exchange...
