Hi I am an absolute noob when it come to cars. Any recommendations for a budget friendly (200-300k secondhand)SUV type car for families with a low fuel consumption and big boot? Thanks

Seriously consider the XUV 3XO.

How much does the Mahindra XUV 3XO cost in SA?

XUV 3XO 1.2T MX2 MT R254 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T MX2 AT R274 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T MX3 MT R274 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T MX3 AT R294 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T AX5 MT R319 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T AX5 AT R344 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T AX5L AT R374 999
XUV 3XO 1.2T AX7L AT R404 999

Prices (correct in October 2024) include a 5-year/150 000-km mechanical warranty. MX derivatives come with 3-year/55 000 km service plans, while AX derivatives have 5-year/100 000 km service plans. Mahindra has 90 dealers across South Africa.

choose the one that suits your style, needs and budget

Suzuki Fronx (can buy new in that budget, or used and save some bucks), Duster, or Honda HR-V.

You want a Duster 2x4. That is exactly the traits you describe.

Lots of support for the Duster I see. Not a fan myself, feels really cheap compared to the Japanese stuff.

7 seater of 5 seater? Off-road or On-Road? I see you say SUV type, for Families, but if you are only going to drive on-road, MPV might be an option too.

I would look for a low mileage Mazda CX-5 2L auto Active model.
- Low maintenance
- Low fuel consumption(neighbors one is averages 7L/100km) which 14km/L. Our Dynamic model is sitting on 8L/100km as its the wife daily and she has a heavy foot. My other neighbor his is sitting on 7.3L/100km
- Reliable and solid build quality
-Spacious interior and good boot space
