So I bought Elite Dangerous.
I loved Wing commander, then Privateer, then Freelancer, then Dark Star, then X3 and even Eve for a while. I thought Elite Dangerous was going to be the best yet. Except maybe for Star Citizen, but that's just over the top pricy for a beta game.
So I bit the bullet and spent the R750 on the Elite.
Its crap. Utter crap. After struggling in the tutorial for hours and not being able to successfully maneuver the ship I started to google. I tried literally for hours with different configurations with my keyboard and mouse to no avail. I googled about getting a refund from steam. No dice. Everyone and everything online says that to play the game at the very least you need a joystick, but to actually be competitive you need a hotas controller. Yea right.
I cant find a hotas controller available online. The cheapest I can find is a Thrust Master at about R1000. It seems a bit crappy but is also discontinued. The other alternative is something like the warthog at R6k.
I ask you with tears in my fsking eyes. WHY TF would I spend SIX FSKING GRAND on a controller for a single game? At the very least I will have to go and spend 6 or 7 hundred rand on a joystick just to be mediocre in the game and since its an mmo whats the point?
Then I got a pop up in steam saying they now do refunds. I thought I was saved. So I applied for the refund, I explained how I tried my best with the game and while the play time is over the two hours its because I left the launcher open over night and that I have never even made it out of the tutorials.
Denied.
So now I am stuck with this POS game I cant play. Unless I get a HOTAS controller for R6k or maybe a second hand thrustmaster somewhere.
Personally I think its piss poor of the developers to make a game that relies so heavily on flight sim equipment and not state the requirement in the description of the game.
Should have stuck it out for star citizen. It would have still been cheaper than this game at the end of the day.
