i-Plate off center

i have been through every single setting on the dstv decoder and my tv is very old so it does not have any settings other than brightness, contrast etc.
but my i-plate is not centered, it is slightly off the screen on the left, and any subtitle's first word of the sentence too.

how do i correct this please?
Do the new tv's have settings like a computer screen where you can center/move the display??

You may need to get a TV technician to come out and adjust the TV picture calibration settings for horizontal size/position and vertical size/position, so that the picture is correctly centred - it may also need to be set for the correct 'overscan' settings to enable you to see the whole picture without cutting off the sub titles!

it wasnt like that when i had normal tv with antennae, it is only now with the dish...
my tv does not have any buttons nobs etc that you can turn/tweak, not at the back either(audio in/out and video in/out)
the tv is 12 years old!
its got power,av,volume and p+ and p- buttons.
the menu button contains calendar,clock,picture,games and parental lock

so how would a tv technician do this then??? bring some sort of a machine with and plug it into the tv??

By going through the settings, I assume that you've already ruled out the possibility that the decoder has been set to 16:9 (widescreen) ratio in stead of the 4:3 that old screens use?

The problem with old TVs is that most people are buying new TVs and technicians rather learn to repair them in stead of the old ones. If you're using the AV-in for your decoder, it might be that it has to be recalibrated to correctly communicate with the tube (if you plug in a DVD player, does it do the same? - Try to isolate the problem area). I'm not too sure if it's possible to recalibrate just that part though and, if it is, the cost in time, effort and money will most probably justify that you rather buy a new TV.

I also have a old TV with tube issues, so I understand your pain, but I just do my best to ignore it untill I can afford a new one.

This should be the starting point - might be that the aspect ratio is wrong and the older TV does not correct (eg squash the picture) for it.

and yes i use the av-in port on the tv.
i dont have a dvd player i extend my laptop screen display and use the s-video out port from the laptop to av-in port on the tv(it only has one) to watch dvd's(i have to unplug the decoder cable then) aaaargh



i was just wondering about it though...no sweat then
