I queue for a living

I had an interesting convo with a retired politician while relaxing in the pool at a hotel in Moshi near the foot of Kilimanjaro. He was convinced the Chinese were the new colonizers, saying the Chinese government actively encourages Chinese citizens to emigrate and set up shop all over the globe because of the shortage of resources in China. The projects I saw in Dodoma appeared to be run by the Chinese with little in the way of local job creation and opportunities. The New Dodoma hotel has an entire Chinese wing with separate chefs and staff who speak Mandarin for the foreign road works and engineering staff there.
I see the Chinese government has also paid for Mandarin lessons for SAPS so that Chinese nationals can get better access to policing and security. Very shrewd.

Are you calling the Chinese robots?:p

So there's no fica or identity process?

Why would there be?
They don't collect documents or do any of that. When they get to the front of the queue; they call you to take their place.

I thought home affairs etc 'outlawed' queue 4 u type places/people years ago

Edit: what always ends up happening with these guys is they just make people wait in line longer, queues get slow to a point where they don't move for hours... always ends in disaster when they get popular. eg, lets say you're number 4 in line, he's number 1, you're thinking great, almost done, he on the other hand has 30 'clients' for the day cutting in number 1 spot for hours on end, he doesn't have 1 come in and start at back again, its 1 after the other after the other, so the queue just stops dead for hours. Now add 2/3 of them... you end up being told at 8am already to come back tomorrow as queues too long and you'll never be seen to today(as used to happen in randburg)

Why do all these departments not just work on a ticket system. You go there the morning, get your ticket, estimated 15-30min before your ticket they send you an sms to come in. That way you can go sit somewhere, have a coffee, shop, if you don't have money, rob.... and when you get that SMS you go back in and wait your turn...

??

??

A lady in Goerge does this, but this guys prices are ridiculous.
She goes to do my car licence every year. I don't even have to be there, she does it all.

Costs me R100 extra total.

This guy is a ripoff

The home affairs in Randburg has a ticketing system, you queue to get the ticket, which you queue to have your photo taken, to queue to have your fingerprints done, to queue to pay.
Than about 2 weeks later you queue to get a ticket, to queue to get your passport/id whatever.

Idiots.

That defeats the purpose I still have to be there for the whole time then. I want to hire someone to go fetch my driver license or fetch some documents from government.

Hi All

I need a bit of advice. I recently did the online application for my passport renewal....

Arriving at DOHA in Cape Town, Barrack street; they informed me that the online payment did not go through, so I had to pay cash on the spot again, or leave with nothing.
Back at FNB they gave me proof that the payment in fact did go through. Again at DOHA I presented this proof to they lady in the accounts dept after being sent from here to there for almost two hours.
She just shrugged her shoulders and told me that I had to contact DOHA head office. I insisted on her giving me a contact nr, but this just rings and rings.... (she commented on what a nuisance all these people are who wants their money back...)

1. Keep my experience in mind before you apply online.
2. Has anyone had the same issue, and got it resolved?

Thanks

Did you get a receipt for the cash payment? I wonder if you just inadvertently bought someone a cool drink.

Pathetic that this service has to exist. We have one of the most bloated civil servant budgets in the world yet this is what we pay for.

Home affairs needs to be outsourced to the private sector. Government can still run the central DB but institutions like banks etc should be entry points.
