I think I just got scammed :/

Not often I get scammed and I am still not sure if I have but I think I should just put the word out there. Yesterday my wife and I were off to do some shopping when we saw a black dude collapse on the road and go into what looked like an epileptic fit. Since no one else stopped we decided to help the person. When I went to him he had white foam pouring out of his mouth. His head was bashing against the tar and his eyes were rolling around in his head. Did I mention he had lots of white foam coming out of his mouth?

Worried that he would asphyxiate I rolled him on his side. Where he spluttered a few times and seemed to come out of the seizure. After a couple of minutes he was able to stand up and move onto the grassy shaded pavement.

He told us a long sob story about how he was from Kempton Park and he had come here looking for a job and he was meant to be taking his anti-epileptic treatment but reacted badly on an empty stomach. I felt really bad for the guy (half his body is deformed from a form of paralysis), so I gave him a couple of hundred rand and some food and watched him go on his way.

I check on the Buffalo City crimespotter page that this has happened at least twice before in other parts of the city. Same story almost word for word. Either this guy is having seizures everywhere or he is a con.

Anyone else heard of this?

Process it like you were actually helping someone in real trouble and leave it at that.
 
Sounds like he might be taking advantage of his condition to scam people. Doesn't sound like the condition is fake from how you describe him. I wonder if he'd die if he's not helped as I assume you did nothing other than turn him over.

I dont feel too bad about losing the money if it was a scam. The guy is poor and deformed. He has a *** lot in life.

My wife says it can happen. Luckily she is a doctor and told me to turn him on his side so he doesnt choke to death.
 
Yeah, write it off and be wary. Might, might not have been faking. Either way, feel good about giving a damn but make sure next time.

There you go... I'd rather the scammers just straight up asked for money so you're not left wondering about it later... There are two guys at two different garages I go to who always start up with the car ran out of petrol story. I've told 'em both I've heard it all before and if they see me they should simply ask. If I can help, I will.
 
No doubt a scam. Like those okes at Monte Casino that walk all spastic, then come five they straighten up and walk home. Best to give food if you're not sure and still want to help.

If that happened to me I would avoid that garage. Their loss for allowing beggars to harass their clients.

There is a pharmacy (where I used to live) that allowed a beggar (very dirty and drunk) to sit at their front door harassing all the clients going in and out. I stopped using them.

You did a good did.
You're the hero.
And as soon as that brace comes off - you lady will prove it to you ;) :)
 
a good deed is a good deed. you did what you thought was right. that show that your a decent human being.
 
Talking about scams,watch out for a red haired guy in cape town with a american accent who has just been mugged.It was even on a popular blog he has scammed so many people
