I totally love Chrome but...

...this not be able to open an file without saving it first really saddens me. I miss this about Firefox. Its ability to handle about anything you wanna do with the file. Open/Save To using firefox. Send to flashgot etc etc.

Yes I know "opening" a file actually just saves it to temp.

Anyone know if chrome can open a file yet? Is there an extension hiding in the webstore abyss? I have not found one.

I use Firefox for most of my browsing, but some of the large HTML content websites (I'm looking at you http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html) hangs the UI thread of Firefox, and drives me mad. So for those I use Chrome. Perhaps it is my first steps towards Chrome...

Back to Firefox for me as Chrome crash on both my pc's.. This started happening after I signed in and synced with tablet and phone...
No remedy for this as far as I can find.

The other thing I don't like is no youtube download plugins and that there isn't a "Recently cosed tabs" option, which I use all the time.

There is one at the bottom of the "speed dial" page thingy. But yeah, it should be more easily accessible

Use Internet Download Manager, it uses an extention that handles all downloads at bullet speeds.

There are a few other extentions as well... Just browse a bit in the store.

I hear ya, but it is very customisable insofar as handling different files in different ways, or ignoring them altogether.

You could also try IETAB and it's variants to see if it gives you what you need.

This does not interfere with all file types. All it does, it add a collection of download links to the bottom of the youtube video, each link being a different quality/format to download the same video you are watching (such as MP4 720p, or FLV 360p)

I'm also losing faith in Chrome at the moment

In both Windows and Ubuntu, Shockwave crashes - and the only fix I can find online doesn't apply to me. In Ubuntu, some pages don't render correctly (thanks to my ATI card drivers). So in the end, I have to use Firefox....
