I want one!!!!

Have you quit smoking? Seem agro lately :D.

Ya if they drop to 3.5k they got a sale but 10k i don't think so

Just how much of a performance difference would the average gamer really notice from one of these over the 920, 945, 965, etc.? Is it like night and day or is it only really something experienced with a benchmarking application? I guess I should read the review first before asking silly questions.
Otherwise I'm with killa here - 3-4k might be okay but for 10k it had better come with a skirt!

Well with the flood of console ports i would imagine you could get quite a huge increase, i know consoles games make use of all cores on a cpu, well quad that it is so i am not sure if it would make use of a 6 core but if console ports do use 6 cores i would imagine the increase would be noticeable. Of course i may be talking through my ass but ya :D.

Good for Video encoding & 3D rendering ... but still not worth the $1000 - when is it ever?

I have to smile when my R1600 CPU outscores this R10000+ monster in gaming at the resolutions I run....

I don't smoke...maybe that's the problem lol.

I'd wait for AMDs 6 core (AM3) offerings to be released. If they're good enough it should push the 980 prices down, if not, just make the switch to AMD.

The XEON models always beat the Extreme Desktop versions, so rather wait for the next Xeon iteration.

If this cuts your AE render time from 1hr to 30min and you can do double the work (two projects not one) at $400 per hour, I think it's worth it.

Whips some serious ass though in games that will utilize it. Not worth 10k but ya a 3-4k 6 core cpu will be awesome :D.

Pox i assume you mean 2568 or something that high right? Just means your vga is maxed out and you become limited not cpu.

The only prob is at this moment in time there is no games on market that will utilize it and I don't really think there will be anytime soon. Most hardly utilize quad never mind 6 core.

The Xeons were released at the same time. One of them, 5680 iirc, is identical to the 980X in terms of clocks & cores, but obviously it has dual-CPU support and things like AES. No idea of the price.

I don't think this cpu is really designed for gaming.

Generally more cores = lower clocks, and clocks matter more in games as many dont utilise quad and hexacore cpus.

But from what I've read this cpu has 6 cores and some pretty hectic clocks, which is rather impressive. Still wouldn't expect anything but a slight difference in games though.
