I want to change my [Tab] default behaviour

Hi all

I am now doing quite a bit of development at work and would like to know how can I change my tab button's default behaviour

We use double spacing instead of tab because a tab indentation is absolutely terrible across IDEs and even OSs in some cases.

So I would like to change my tab to rather input 2 spaces instead of a tab.

how do I do this? I work on Red Hat and Ubuntu systems. So a solution that would work on both platforms would be great thanks

So you are using both Gnome and Unity?

I have no idea how Unity works, but Gnome should have a GUI front-end to change the keyboard settings and even apply custom key configurations. I use KDE and it is very simple in KDE, I have limited experience with Gnome and none with Unity, so Google is your friend.

You can do it the "old school" way also using xmodmap.

That should set you on the straight and narrow.

If you use the awesome sublime text 2 editor, you can set it to indent using spaces instead of tabs, you can also specify the amount of spaces to use.
