I have some old ecom enabled sites created in classic ASP that are currently lying dormant, and I need to resurrect them.

I have some pretty specific ideas on what I want to do and Magento fits the bill perfectly, but I have no PHP skillz.

So here's the deal... if you are a PHP coder, preferably with a knowlege of Majento (or willing to learn) I am offering a profit share/partnership sorta thing.

I supply the stock, domains, hosting, SEO, online merchant account, payment gateway, subscribers list, existing customer base and everything else.

You supply the PHP skillz and maybe a little design work......then we both make some money. These sites averaged around R15 000 - R20 000 when they were working properly (record month was over R300 000)

So if you got the skillz, PM me with your contact details and let's talk.

Oh yeah - if you are in the Joburg area it's a massive plus. If you're outside of Joburg feel free to contact me anyway, but preference will be given to the Joburgers.

1. Difficult to take someone seriously with that nic and their first post.
2. Magento not Majento
3. 95% of the effort is the dev work... 5% is the "domains / hosting / online merchant account / payment gateway" so be prepared to offer 95% shares. SEO will require the dev's time, so you won't be offering that either. Basically, you will be placing an order for items when the site is complete, and bringing an (unproven at this point) customer base.

That is of course assuming that you won't be paying a cent to the dev.

I'm wondering why a developer wouldn't just start their own thing? What's really in it for them? Apart from bearing all the risk (i.e. spending all their time only for this to possibly go belly up). This sounds like another "I have a great idea... but no money... so let's see if I can get some work done for free" situation.

Sorry for the negative post... i've just seen too many devs burned like this before.

You'd be better off doing one of the following:

1. Taking some time to pick up Magento skills (or another CMS). It's really not that hard... even for ppl with no dev experience, as long as they have the drive. Payment gateways are an easy thing to set up. There are plugins for Payfast / Monsterpay etc that require literally one click to install in Magento. Then save up a little cash to get a dev in to fix up the few things you can't get right. Hosting set up can be done by your ISP... and you will just need to FTP the files and install the database.

2. Save the dosh and pay for developers.

3. Admit that you don't want to fork out on the site upfront (which can only mean you truly don't believe in the site, or have zero cash)... and at least let devs in on the full story up front. In this case, be prepared to be the minority share holder.

Again, looking at the share option you are putting forward, I am assuming no payment to the dev. If you are paying the dev... please disregard this post:P

1) You'd have to me a MTG player to get it
2) I know... my bad
3) 1% is dev time - 99% is marketing, SEO, link building, PPC campaign management, affiliate management, media buiying, inventory control, packing, shipping, content development, email campaigns etc etc etc, but am willing to discuss sensible profit sharing.
4) I'm sitting on about a hundred grands worth of stock and can source more any time. The sites were already up and running successfully before the host cocked up the code, so it's hardly a "I have an idea" sort of scenario.
5) I know magento is a one click install, but I want a few tweaks and some custom stuff. I have proper hosting (on 5 different servers worldwide) so I have unlimited bandwidth and space.
6) Damn right I don't want to pay upfront - I've been screwed by more than one developer. I figure if I get somebody involved and earning continuously they will be more likely to pull finger when needed.

1. Don't care much for gaming. But I get it. Just seemed weird to choose that when you are coming on here with a business proposal.
3. 1% is not dev time. If you go into partnership with a dev thinking that, you're gonna treat them like crap, and they will leave. SEO / Link building / PPC / affiliate management... please, that's work... but not 99%. pfft.
4. Wow... so you've got that much dosh, but won't pay for development? Hosts cocked up the code? So where are your backups?
5. You'll note I didn't say Magento is a one click install... I said the payment gateway could be if u chose a ready made package. I also said get a dev for the custom stuff. I know that newbies can't get that right in a short space of time.
6. I didn't say upfront either. I said pay. I wouldn't pay up front either. But as a dev I wouldn't work for free unless I was getting a very good share, and the business proposal was solid.

Good luck in your endeavor anyhow. I just think you are being unrealistic in your proposal.

Perhaps others here will disagree, but I smell trouble.

This sounds like another ...i have a great idea ....but no capital case , thing is you are wrong dev definatly takes the cake interms of time and comitment my advice to you would be if you are not willing to learn the skills ...then pay a good developer and please do not take us for succers we have seen many developers being hoodwinked like this ............:D

Sigh..... ok - back to my original post... here are the main points I am offering:

1) Existing repeat customer base
2) 6000 + opt in subscriber mail list
3) Mutiple existing #1 Google rankings for pretty competitive terms
4) Proven and working marketing plan.
5) An existing business

SEO / Link building / PPC / affiliate management/ PACKING / SHIPPING /RESTOCKING /etc .... these are never ending and need to be done everyday as long as the site exists. I just need a few hours/days dev time to get started and maybe 2 or 3 hours a week thereafter

What I don't have is comitment from a developer. That is what I want to "buy" by offering an ongoing partnership rather than paying a once off to somebody who will possibly uncontactable when I urgently need something done or want to roll out new features/specials what ever.

If you are interested PM me. If not, go fund and create a successful site for yourself but stop raining unfounded negativness on this thread.

Oh - BTW. I don't want to take anybody for "succers". The figures in the original post are accurate. I am actually willing to pay MORE than you would make from a once off!

OK Firstly i wouldnt wanna work with someone who's name was "An Infernal Spawn of Evil".... :p have to agree with the developer in this "room" lol. Should have posted full details first time... and avoid being dissed like this.

Look guys i also wouldnt do work for anyone who's name is "An Infernal Spawn of Evil". thats it, thats all i am gona say!

I am surprised the developer didn’t throw in a “ select finger from hand were finger_id = 3 “ . ok ok i should stop

LOL @ Infernal spawn of evil nick.

That was that card in two cards right? The one you had to shout "IIIIIITS Coming!" . I swear, give that "Denimwalk' and you could walk any tournament. Reminding me of such great cards like "Knights of the Hockey Pockey"

Ive still got a bunch of my Unglued cards left.
