I want to partner with a PHP coder.

OK - thread closed. I spoke to a few people and I've made my choice.

I expect to be back sometime real soon to post earnings and laugh at the negative posters

Dude...some irregularities in your post...even though this is "closed"...just wanted a bit of clarification cos Im a bit lost.

1. Dev time is nowhere near 1%. I have to assume you are not a developer, as no developer would say

"1% is dev time - 99% is marketing, SEO, link building, PPC campaign management, affiliate management, media buiying, inventory control, packing, shipping, content development, email campaigns etc etc etc, but am willing to discuss sensible profit sharing."

It statements like these that really irritate me. I have produced countless websites in classic ASP/PHP and have had many clients going on about how urgent they want things up and they dont understand why its taking so long. So thats just it...if you are not a developer...you wont have a clue about the time and effort it takes in getting a website up. So again...thats why I say I dont think you are a developer.

Im glad you found someone, hopefully it works out...but dont expect things to happen like yesterday. It will take some time.

2. Your statement below:

Mutiple existing #1 Google rankings for pretty competitive terms

Even if the classic ASP website was running and you convert it to PHP and switch over to PHP...its new file names and path etc...so having #1 Google rankings means nothing, even if you will be linking to other #1 Google ranked site. Linking is just 1 small part of SEO. You will have to start from scratch for the PHP website you want developed in terms of SEO, and granted...if you will be linking with other #1 Ranked Google websites....its a starting point. But that is all....its a small starting point.

Im actively doing SEO for our websites at work, and I work with our SEO specialist. Its a HUGE job.

So ja...all Im saying is I hope you are ready to sweat...cos its not going to be as easy / walk in the park as you make it out to be... ;)

Ahh crap... I thought this was over..

1) I am a developer (but a pretty piss poor one, I'm the first to admit) I know exactly how long it takes to develo a site but THIS business requires new stock items to be photographed, described, weighed etc every single day. When an item is ordered, it has to me individualy wrapped, packed, addressed, taken to the post office and shipped. Then new items have to be purchased, photgraphed (also video'd for the more expensive items), edited blah blah blah all over again, so it's an ongoing, never ending job. The developer pretty much get to sit back and chill after the site is complete and only do a few hours here and there to keep the design and functionality improving and in line with new developments. Not bad in exchange for a full time income and I don't expect it to be ready in an unrealistic ammount of time.

2) I am a high level SEO so this is dead easy - simple 301 redirects will do the job in most cases but add in a few ninja SEO techniques and not only will there be no loss, but I fully expect some increases.

Now, at the risk of upsetting every developer here, how come no developers (at least none that I have ever met) actually own a money making website of thier own? It's all very well to charge other people for your skills and design sites for them, but how come you don't/won't/can't develop a website/online business of your own?

I've done several succesful websites and I am so confident in this being a success, I BET that after dev is completed the first sale will come in within 30 minutes of the site going live! Any developers willing to step and take that bet? My personal record is 3 and a half minutes....

Ok kewl...no worries. Was just saying, its a crap load of work getting a site up....even with some of a head start (SEO, market plan etc etc). But ja...best of luck....always exciting getting something going and seeing it grow into something you want ;)

Oh...about not owning a money making website of my own, I have a few running...but not with the idea of making money off of it. If I wanted to go that route, I would have to sacrifice a lot of my personal time...and with my son only a few months old, well....dont need to say much more. Family is all that matters to me right now, enjoying the time with him! ;)

5 or 6 PMed me, met with the winner on Saturday, will spend about a week messing around to get the hang of Magento before final brainstorming and actually starting dev.

hello guys, interesting read above here. i'm not gonna try and kiss some deveass before i explain my post, simply put: I've been assigned a task to develop a computer game (details extended to those involved). Right now i need to find developers who are can do all the *** work while I lobby with the stakeholders and the overall management. My company's profile is available by Googling Khilele's Computing Solutions. As unprofessional as it may seem, I am currently developiny my website (khilele.co.za and have another khilele.net-which is however just dedicated to the ISP). It's alot of work that I can't afford to do now or later, if anyone is interested just drop me an e-mail on [email protected]. Its going to be a South African product based on open source (OpenGL) standards. Refer to a dev if you can.

Regards
