With the end goal of being able to create a basic site that doesn't look awful and get hacked constantly.

I've set it up so I am hosting a Wordpress installation locally (with MS WebMatrix). This is where I will be messing with my mockup site, so this step is done.

I have no particular question at this stage - Just looking for good resources to start me on this journey. Also, any beginners guide to, well, hosting these things online and all that jazz, as it's a bit mysterious to me (what the heck is MySQL, etc...).

Thanks!

One of the first things one should learn with wordpress is which themes are secure and which not.

I can help you for free woohoo! Msg me

How about if I have questions, I'll put them in the thread? You can answer here or via PM, I don't mind.

How, given that there are so many?

You got a multi million contract to design a government website didn't you. :p

Pshh, if that were the case, I'd just outsource it and take twenty million for myself...

Where things are now: I have a domain! I have hosting!

Next step is installing Wordpress, and making it secure.

:)

Any idea about the above?

For clarification, what I am trying to do is change my nameservers to those of Cloudlflare (adel.ns.cloudflare.com and apollo.ns.cloudflare.com), in order to use my domain on their network.

Using Domaincheap and Cpanel.

Not sure how to go about this...

*edit*

I am also in contact with Domaincheap, and am sure they will be able to assist.

And also learn which plugins are secure, don't use ones that haven't been tested/rated or even ones that you download for free somewhere if it's not in the WordPress respository.

Enjoy! I'm not at all a guru with WP.
I'm sure I'll be asking you for advice before long.
