I can't decide...

There WILL come a time in a few years when you wish you had a few extra FPS at 1080p. Rather shell out the extra, so that you can crank your CPU if you eventually need to.

I'm playing Crysis 3 on the i5 3570k (stock speeds) at the moment and there are definitely scenes which are making me consider visiting my local BIOS.
 
Price difference?

EDIT: I see it's about R200 difference. I'd definitely go for the K-series.
Even with stock cooling the little bit of overclock you'll get with that chip in future easily makes up for the price difference.

Most of all though, I think knowing you don't have a K-series while everyone else is ranting and raving about their chips will piss you off enough :D

cool, k series it is. question, "no vPro", "no TSX" and no "VT-d"...does this matter? what is it? Am i going to use it?
 
Do you run virtual machines? If yes, then do not get the K series.

I dont understand why the K series does not include that stuff.
 
im building a new system, and this is what i have on paper, so far:

Lian Li CH-LC60B (It needs to be in an HTPC case to blend in with my home theatre system that I am picking up today)
CP-iH4670K 2399 ex. vat

And i'm deciding whether a Sabretooth is really worth it or not...the only things that it has over the Gryphon is:
TUF Fortifier
Thermal Armor with Flow Valve
TUF dust defender with protection covers for i/o port and slots
10x SATA6G with raid 0/1//0+1/5/10 ( 8x SATA6G + 2x eSATA6G ) (the gryphon has: 6x SATA6G with raid 0/1//0+1/5/10)
Realtek ALC1150 DTS 7.1 audio with optical s/pdif out (The Gryphon has Realtek ALC892 7.1 audio with optical s/pdif out)
3x pci-e(1x) (The Gryphon has 1x pci-e(1x))
 
I have no idea why they strip some features from the 4670k, its retarded. So you can't overclock and use VT-d?

If you want to overclock get the 4670k else the 4670. Mind you the k series CPU's usually have better resale.

Also look at getting an aftermarket cooler as Haswell runs hot. My stock 4670k was sitting at 74 degrees while playing bf3 with the crappy intel HSF. Had to get a Coolermaster Seidon water cooler and now it seldom touches 50 degrees even with prime95 etc.

Ai ai ai. MANY MANY MANY people make the mistake of thinking that no VT-d means that the CPU has no hardware virtualization support.

VT-x is the hardware virtualization tech that you need to run VM's fast and the K model CPU's does have that.

VT-d is the directed I/O tech, which means that you won't be able to have graphics acceleration in your VM, which is no biggy to most people.

Not sure why people think that, there would be an outcry of massive proportions if Intel ever did that.
 
So you are building a HTPC?

HTPC/Gaming computer hybrid. HTPC Case because i want it to blend in with the surroundings (Receiver, TV, Home Theatre system), and ill be using it to play games on my TV.

So im getting rid of that crappy mede8er as well.

I have had my Sabretooth Z77 for about a year now. By far the best looking board I have ever owned. The thermal armour is plastic, so it is a bit of a gimmick, but you can set the fans underneath to run for x minutes after power off, which must help in theory. The dust covers are worth their weight in gold in my opinion. Keeps everything clean and also gives the motherboard a uniform clean look.
One thing worth mentioning is that my thermal armour was blocking my Coolermaster V6GT, so I had to rotate it 90°.
