I run this chip on a GA-X58A-UD3R Mobo, with 6GB memory, PSU 700W, graphics card ATI 6870.
The CPU cooler is the normal Intel stock.
No overclocking whatsoever.

Whenever I run demanding games, the Mobo light for CPU overheating turns RED. The ATI card is just fine.
It goes from 55-65C to almost 80C, sometimes even more.
Is this dangerous?
The research in Google gives back a mixture of opinions, some people says is normal, some others that I have to get a better cooler or else, not sure what to do.
Any idea will be welcome.

This is just a prime example of how crappy those Intel stock coolers are. My i7 860 had exactly the same results with the stock cooler.

I guess it's fine to run it on the stock cooler if you're never going to run it at 80'C+ for longer than a few minutes, which is why I bought a Cogage True Spirit to replace the stock cooler.
I really can't say if it is BAD for the CPU to run at those temperatures, but I assume it is bad ;)

I'd suggest that you also look into getting an aftermarket cooler, even if it is a cheapish one like the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ or Cogage True Spirit.

+1

Installed a CM Hyper 212 the other day. Very nice cooler for the price I would say. R300ish.

Even the CM Hyper TX3 would be a huge improvement, at R150ish.
