Entire hotel I'm at is full of IAAF athletes. Haven't seen much besides the marathon though.
 
Semenya needs to start wearing little shorts like the rest of the ladies.
 
Bronze for Semenya? Yup. She was woefully out of position at 250 to go. Made up tons of ground in the final 100.

Government congratulates IAAF medallists

Government has congratulated athletes Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai on their medal wins at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London.

On Monday, Communications Minister Ayanda Dlodlo congratulated long jumper Luvo Manyonga, who won a gold medal and Ruswahl Samaai, who won a bronze medal in the men's long jump on Saturday.

“Government congratulates Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai for their astonishing performance at the IAAF World Championships. We are proud of all our participants and encourage Team South Africa to fly the country’s flag high and bring more medals home,” said Minister Dlodlo.

Manyonga shot to fame last year when he won silver at the Rio Olympics. Despite the struggle with a few injuries this year, Manyonga’ s passion and dedication to the sport saw him thrive at this year’s championships in London.

In addition, government urged South Africans to use the power of social media to motivate and support Team South African as they participate at the IAAF World Championships that got underway on Friday.

The 16th edition of the 2017IAAF World Championships taking place in London, United Kingdom will conclude on 13 August 2017.

Semenya’s legacy continues to blossom with bronze in 1,500m

Caster Semenya added to South Africa’s medal tally at the IAAF World Championship in London on Monday night by winning bronze in the 1,500m.

In a tough field, in an event she doesn’t run regularly, Semenya ran a dubious tactical race. Fast right from the get-go, Semenya almost looked like she was taken by surprise with the final lap, but her ability to accelerate on the final straight ensured a podium finish.

Third behind Faith Kipyegon (4:02.59) and Jennifer Simpson (4:02.76), Semenya’s time of 4:02:90 is some way off her personal best, but that hardly mattered. This is not her main event.

Semenya claims bronze, Wayde, Simbine in semis

Earlier in the evening, Wayde van Niekerk and Akani Simbine made no mistakes in safely booking their spots in the semfinals of the 200m.

But there was heartbreak for another of SA’s junior athletes, Clarence Munyai. He thought he had also safely qualified after finishing third in his heat in 20.19, but was later disqualified for stepping out of his lane.

Van Niekerk won his heat in 20.16 while Simbine finished second in his heat in 20.26.

Makwala suffers as food poisoning affects worlds

A number of athletes at the World Championships have been laid low by stomach upsets with Botswana's Isaac Makwala saying on Monday he was forced to withdraw from the 200m heats because of food poisoning.

London 2017 organisers released a statement late on Monday saying that a number of teams had reported cases of gastroenteritis at their official hotel.

"Those affected have been supported by both team and LOC medical staff, in addition we have been working with Public Health England to ensure the situation is managed and contained," the organising committee said in a statement.

Wayde certainly makes the race look easy. He had at least another second or three that he could have shaved off his time tonight. But I suppose the WR was safe and he is pacing himself for the 200. What a phenom.
 
Wenda Nel in the 400 metres hurdles missed out on the final. She came third in her semi. Only the top 2 qualified.
