Iatrophobia = Fear of Doctors

Do you ? I do :o

I think it is not a phobia in my case, but a fairly serious anxiety. In the end, if I absolutely must go, I will, but if left with a choice, I'd 100 times over choose not to go.

It's funny that, cognitively, I understand there is no harm, the purpose of the visit is to alleviate pain, etc. but I really worry about it beforehand, feel nervous in the waiting room, etc.

You ?

I hate going in case they find something seriously wrong

It feels like an utter waste of time and inconvenience to me, as if my days aren't short enough I have to spend an hour getting examined. Like I would rather be doing other things :/

But if I am sick I would rather go to a doc than spend another minute at work. I can take a lot of physical pain but the slightest nausea or drowsiness and I am completely immobile :/ granted I hardly ever get sick or have headaches and so on :)

I hate going simply because i dont trust a lot of them.

A few years back, i had really bad pains in my stomach, went to the GP an he said it might be my appendix, so i should go to the hospital. Pitched up an they scheduled me for a scope. (Yes argh). So as im lying on the table, one of the nurses is talking to me, about how she knows my mom an that they party together, and also how i've changed. Before i have time to think i was out. The procedure was supossed to take about 30 mins. My mom got worried when after an hour and 30 mins, the doc came out and said your son Craig is fine. My name is not Craig.

They mixed mine an Craigs files up, he went for a scope, and my appendix was removed.(There was nothing wrong with it btw).

I can just imagine that Craigs scope was a little messy ;)

So thats why i struggle to trust them.

Also an aunt of mine was feeling so sick a few weeks back, and it looked like she was 6 months pregnant, now she's a tiny women. She went to a doc an he gave her some anti-inflammatories, of course it didnt help, an she felt even worse. Went to another doc and he immediatly booked her in for surgery, she had a huge cancerous growth in her stomach, and now she has to go for chemo an so on.

I just hate spending money if the end result is being told I'm healthy. Which is 80% of the time.

So if you see one in full uniform in the street and you run away from him like Sheamus does with the sun is it still Iatrophobia?
